Yamaha Unveils Electronic Power Steering
Jan 14, 2010 - 5:06 PM - by admin

For two days we dashed and hammered a pre-production 2011 Yamaha “something or other” through the woods and over the trails of northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula. Don’t ask us what we were riding, because Yamaha marketing types refused to tell us. “Guess what it is,” they said. “Tell us your impressions and what you think of it.”

This had to be the most unique product introduction — snowmobile, motorcycle or ATV — that we’ve attended. Marketing types... [Read More]

2009 Arctic Cat T500 Touring Review
Jan 06, 2009 - 11:28 AM - by admin

Arctic Cat's understanding of two-up snowmobiling dates to the mid-1960s when Cat engineers devised the first full production parallel rail slide suspension for its Panther. Since then Arctic Cat has continued to build on its reputation as the maker of the 'Catillacs' of touring sleds. Check out the turbocharged power of the latest two-up Cat, the TZ1 Turbo Touring LXR. This take-a-friend along model has the character of a sport sled with all the amenities of a luxury SUV, including a heated seat!

While the more basic T500 touring model may not be as fully featured as the top of the line TZ1,... [Read More]

2009 Yamaha Phazer GT Review
Jan 02, 2009 - 10:43 AM - by admin

When it comes to Yamaha's Phazer series we have extremely mixed feelings. It's really not Yamaha’s fault. It is our bias and belief that the Phazer, good enough as it is; it could be far better.

Maybe we expect way too much from this snowmobile. After all, the 2009 Yamaha Phazer GT is pretty darn good. It is extremely athletic as snowmobiles go. It comes with some very good technology. It showcases some original thinking. And, there’s always that Yamaha quality we appreciate.

Let's look at the positives. The darn Phazer is a unique looking snow vehicle. Right away... [Read More]

2009 Polaris Trail Touring DLX Review
Jan 02, 2009 - 10:43 AM - by admin

Who says you can't get a great deal in a 2009 model snowmobile? Surely not Polaris, which gives you a moderately priced touring sled with renowned quality, durability and bulletproof reliability. Of course, what passes for the 2009 Polaris Trail Touring DLX should be rock solid, because it is the end result of Polaris past with some Polaris present. This sled does not figure in Polaris' future, but for the here and now and US$6,599, it is a darn good value.

The 2009 Polaris Trail Touring DLX captures Polaris' history from ski tip to snow flap. It is one of the few remnants of... [Read More]

2009 Arctic Cat F1000 Sno Pro Review
Jan 02, 2009 - 10:42 AM - by admin

As one Arctic Cat rider told us recently, "I'm not really a big engine sled rider, but when I had the F1000, I really liked hitting the throttle and feeling the power." As for his not being a big engine sled guy? The fellow has graduated to Cat's Turbo Z touring model.

As for the all-out 2009 Arctic Cat F1000 Sno Pro, it is Cat's king of the 2-strokes. You don't buy this sled if you are the shy and retiring type. You buy the 999cc Arctic Cat sport monster because you like power, handling and the ability to rip across a lakebed ahead of the pack. There's nothing reticent about... [Read More]
