U.S. World Trade Deficit

Donald Trump speaks of this quite frequently and references China along with Mexico etc etc. I'm retired, not a business owner so never had any personal experience with this until recently. Over the years I've typically shopped price and still do. But over approximately the last 15 years Taiwan is seen less frequently and I see more Chinese products and have had more problems with them from a quality and durability stand point.

I was shopping recently for a new helmet to use when riding my ATV. I had been using my original Suzuki Cavalcade motorcycle helmet from 1986 and it was shot. Now I won't buy something on the I Net that comes directly from China but I missed that on my replacement helmet purchase . It was shipped direct and I had it in 7 days. Now this is listed as DOT approved, is a modular with retractable Inner dark sun shield and clear flip up outter shield plus the modular flip up jaw. Saw quite a few dealers handling this particular brand and model sold at a broad range of prices, with or without free shipping. Paid $54.99 for it which included free shipping (missed it was coming direct from China). As rec'd it was defective, Inner shield was not assembled correctly and would not retract. After multiple communications with China they agreed to a refund when I returned it to them. I asked for a prepaid shipping label from them which they could not supply. I took it to the post office and found out the cheapest USPS price would be $37.50 and they could not give any idea as to when it would arrive at the destination.

I started doing some searching On the I net and found out that China sending items here through mail service costs hardly anything compared to us sending to them. I estimate they paid around $5.00 to get it to me and in 7 days.

So now I have a much better idea of part of the reason for the U.S. trade deficit. (besides the cheap labor)

IN GOD WE TRUST

In Hillary,----DEFINITELY NOT!!!!

Obama put us in the toilet, and Hillary will flush it !!! (I borrowed that quip)

P.S. "You can't borrow your way out of debt" (I said that)

That really sucks. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm pretty sure they are counting on being able to sell us inferior products with no recourse on return. That business model will work for a while, but eventually, people will realize that there's a reason their junk is so cheap. I'm betting you won't be buying anything any time soon! In some cases, it's almost impossible to find any product in an area that is NOT made elsewhere. US manufacturing is going by the wayside as more and more people shop solely by price. That's a hard thing to overcome, as it's difficult to part with your hard earned cash and the allure of a great price is pretty overwhelming.

It's difficult to do your homework, but often, items can be reviewed on Amazon and you can get an idea of the ratings others have given the product. Those can be very telling.

As you say it is difficult some times to avoid buying Chinese made. But I just missed in the listing that it wasn't States side and shipping direct from China. I'm still corresponding with them and here is my last message to them:

"
I have now removed the metal plate (picture attached) that holds the button in place to raise and lower the shield . The shield is in it's proper position and is contacting the "linkage" which is behind the liner. I believe the liner is glued to the shell Because it does not move. I cannot determine how the mechanism and shield are supposed to engage for the shield to move up and down WHICH IT WILL NOT DO.

I am finished working with this helmet and retract my previous acceptance of your offer.

Here are my offers.

Give me a full refund $54.99 and I will throw this helmet in the garbage

or Pay my account $92.99 and I will ship this back to you

or ship me a NEW WORKING REPLACEMENT HELMET no charge, and pay my account $37.50 to ship this one back

or ignore all 3 of my options and I will let E bay/PayPal handle it.

I expect your response on Monday 6/19/2016"
