Welcome,Very common on the TM-40's
Air is what seems to be the issue.. and with some tweaking it can be resolved.
Check your carb boots for cracks/rubber rot and y-pipe for cracks 1st.
Some have cured the high idle by turning the fuel screw out another 1/4 turn from the factory 1 1/2 turns out . Any more then 2 turns out and the fuel screw adjustment does nothing.
Some have just changed pilot jets from the stock 17.5's to 20's to cure it also.
Another thing is the design of the tm-40's.
If your any bit happy with the flipper and constantly working the slides it will show up more and sooner then some.
The coating tends to wear off the slides ...and from the slides being so loose it's letting air past by them causing a lean condition ..high idle...even with good coating on the slides their loose from the factory
Kinda crappy finish work on the carb body itself doesn't help matters ...but there is a fix for that too.
But being your only hanging for a few seconds I would try the fuel screw out another 1/4 turn to start. The fix for the bodies would require a total dismantle of the carbs and some time.
I have 2 05 ss 's and one was fixed just by the fuel screw turned out to 1 3/4 turns..but is starting to get worse , the other I had to go with the total carb rebuild and 20 pilots to get it under control...slide wear.. my thumb never stops
This summer I will be pulling both apart and sending the slides out for new coating , that's the one thing in the fix I skipped when I did mine. All because it was mid season and didn't want any down time waiting on them to get back.
