I bought a used hood for my 1999 ZL 500. the graphics were similar(ZL), however the hood does not fit. It is obvious that it is from a new er year. Can someone tell me when the hood design changed. I want to resell it, but i have no idea what years it fits.
Also, i want to put green ZR parts on the sled to change the color. What year ZR parts will fit my 99?

The first ZL was made in 97 and had was the ZR1 style hood. In 98 they did some big upgrades and got a different look (the ZR2) which stayed on the ZL's until 2000. Then in 2001 the ZL lineup moved to the ZR3 style. So you will have to find out if it is either a ZR1 or ZR3 style which will be very easy to tell. The ZR1 is somewhat 'boxy' and the ZR3 hood is more 'curvy'.
For you 99 ZL you will have to get 98 or 99 ZR parts to fit it since those were the only years teh ZR used the ZR2 chasis.

Here is what the 97 ZL looked hood looked like. BTW in 97 you could only get the ZL in a 440.

Here is the 2001+ style hoods. The ZL's had this style hood (the current ZR style) until their last year in 2003.

Just my 0.02$... the 2000 ZL is the same hood as well. 99 was the last year for the ZL/ZR hood look alike. 2000 is when the ZR changed to the ZR3 style which is still being used on the ZR900's and Bearcats
You need a 98 to 2000 ZL hood to fit your 99... or a 98 to 99 ZR(green)
