I was just wondering what I should be expecting my 98 XC 700 to top out at.

So far (over the lake) I've been able to reach a consistant 105mph. I believe the sled has VForce reeds and is clutched. Everything else is stock.

Does this sound right?

Thanks.

Hey 40, I was just wondering the same thing. I have 24/40 gears and the best I have seen is 110 this weekend on hardpack road on the speedo. I think I might be running out of gear though.

Racer, You are not running out of gear. I have seen 119 on my speedo on right conditions on a long flat and fast road on a good cold day. About 108 or so on a lake. My gearing was stock also. 24/40. SWRules

You're not running out of gear. I have a 2000 xc sp with a slp twin pipe and heads. Had it 128 on a lake last week. Took about a mile

I looked in the 2000 polaris performance manual and it says the following with 24-40 gearing: at 7750 rpms -99.9; at 8000rpms- 103.1; at 8250- 106.3 and thats at 1:1 shift out (nearly Ideal). Don't believe the speedo! I run 24-39 gearing and in 1000 feet the speedo is around 120+ but on radar 107-108. the faster you go the further off they usually are! Radar is not perfect but I tend to believe it more than speedo.

Thanks for the replies all.

So if my speedo says 105, then most likely I'm only doing around 100.. usually 4-5 miles off.

in all honesty,i would say 105 speedo is closer to a Real speed of 95-96.polaris is close to 10% high on speedo,
Now ski doos are pretty close to being accurate. ride side by side to one ,and the doo will register a lower speed

Polaris speedo's seem to have a 10% fudge factor. My sled reads 103mph, and it radared at 97mph. Brothers 700ves reads 114mph and radared at 110mph.

Hey smokin 700, I was thinking about going to 24-39 gears instead of the stock 24-40's, did you do anything special to yours that you decided to gear up, or is it a 700 ves? Just curious
