Quick question

I have a 1997 formula 500, just purchase it.

Have bled the break lines, check the calipers,and top up the engine oil everything seems to be in fine shape.

When I'm riding and hit the brakes, the oil light comes on, any suggestion?

Thats because the oil light doubles as a brake indicator light. They all(ski-doo) doo it. Happy dooing.

Actually that brake indication shows you that the oil level warning light is working. If you apply the brakes & the light doesn't come on, either the switch triggered by the brake lever is kaput or the indicator light itself isn't working. If this happens while you're riding, make sure you keep an eye on the oil level in the reservoir.

Don't feel bad, nobody likes to have lights coming on. It usually means something is wrong, but not in ski-doo's case. Enjoy the winter!! :christmas:

Yep, the Doo's do that. Believe me I was freaked for a while also until I figured out that it comes on when you brake. When I first got the sled I actually stopped on the trail to check the oil again which I knew was full. Then some guy in our group with a MXZ 800 says hey ding dong, they're supposed to do that.

That's why they supply an owners manual with each new snowmobile. If you guys would take the time and at least breeze through it, you wouldn't embarrass yourselves out on the trail. Come on guys!!!!

I see your question has been answered on this thread. I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, but this information is in the owners manual. If you don't have one, try and get one at the Doo dealer. It will help you get familiar with the machine and the Doo brand characteristics. Maintenance items and machine set-up stuff is all covered...Again trying to be helpful, not critical.

Like the last two said and if you bought this sled from a dealer he/she should have explained this to you. I bought my very first skidoo from a cat and polaris dealer and they explained it to me.

Thats funny. I did the same thing when i bought mine brand new. Nope i didnt read my manual either. I didnt embarress myself though i was riding alone. It took me a couple of minute to figure out why my oil light was coming on only when i stop.

Let the snow be deep
the trails be wide and
the hills be steep

thanks all,

The replies were well recieved, I did manage to buy a shop manual for the sled
the day after I bought it,but i"ll be darned if I could find the event notification.

I must have have read up on everything else twice and have done 3/4 of the tune up's in the manual...........slight oversight.

Last thing, the guy who previously owned /rode this machine died 2years ago so it was a little difficult to get answers from him, and I purchased it from a family member and friend of mine who did'nt have a clue,let alone a manual.
