Can anyone help me with changing my track on my 1981 SkiDoo Blizzard 5500 MX? I have started it and I am stuck. I do not know how the track shaft comes out. I have been given two different stories. Does the shaft need to go towards the speedo side and drop on the chain case side for the track to be removed on the chain case side, Or does the bolts around the chain case need to be removed so the shaft can move towards the chain case direction and drop on the speedo side.

If I need to take off the 5 bolts on the chain case side it seems like the whole chain case and brake asaembly would have to move with it. I am confused. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

My 1980 ski doo shop manual says...

Remove the following items..
-belt guard and belt
-driven pully assembly
-speedometer cable and angle drive (if applicable)
-chaincase cover, sprockets and chain
-drive axle oil seals

Release track tention
-remove suspension
-end bearing housing
-drive axle assembly
-suspesion cross shaft

I took a track off a 79 5500...if i remember correctly the chaincase can say on the frame, but the cover and sprockets gotta come out...then the oil seal (which was a #####) then i could pull the one end of the axle out and slide the track off it..and then the entire axle came out...
hope that helps!

Thanks Russ.
What are the oil seals? Do they have to be replaced or can I reuse them. Do you remember which side it dropped down on?
