1978 ski doo olympic- NO SPARK!

got a 1978 ski doo olympic today. it has no spark.

We have looked everything over and tested everything with a voltage regultor, nothing at all..it s not the coils its something before them.

the guy also mentioned that the condencer wire broke a year or so back and they sodered it back togeather but this is the same symptoms. so my new question is wheres the condencer so I can check it over, maybe the wire is just broke again?

i think you are talking about the voltage regulator and its usually a little box about 1 inch by 1 inch. just follow the wires and you might find it

No Spark !

As far as I know all the elec components for the ignition are behind the clutch assembly.

If it has a condenser that would mean it also has ignition points which would be located behind the flywheel which is located behind the starter recoil....If it does have points they may be the problem as well..They may need regapped or replaced...I would check it out first though as I wouldn't think a 1978 would still have points ignition but it might.I think most had changed to a CDI ignition by then.

yes its got points. I cleaned them and now I have spark...and no I am also flooded its coming out the exagust thats how bad its flooded. how can I get it out I have heard of 2 plugs somewhere that go to the bottom end that you can drain it all out. I have also heard of putting a tourch into it but I ma nervous about doing something like that seams kinda stupid gas and fire?

No spark on my '78 Everest

I just got a '78 Ski-doo Everest that has no spark. Sounds like I have the same problem as you. I think it's the same engine. Can anyone tell me how 'big' of a job it is to get to the points and clean them? What special tools will I need? Any steps to get me in the right direction would be much appreciated!!

if you are flooding out the exaust its your float needle or diaframs in the carb

Talking Hey Sparky

Have the same sled and had the same problem just a quick thing to check before tearing your sled apart, check to make sure your darn kill switch on you handle bar isn't stuck down in the off position as these old ones tend to stick even if ya have to pull up on the button several times lol good luck hope this helps.

i have a 1978 ski-doo blizzard 5500 i picked up form my buddy's house it been sitting out side for 5 or 6 yrs and i am have the same problem wit the ignition no spark so does that have points too?? plz help

point's carb's flywheel puller's

Hello all, first off blizzard's, the 5500 one's, were first made in 1979 and I believe they were all Bosch point's system's in them til' I believe 81' or 82 then they went to the nippondenso cdi, as for taking your or checking your point's you will need a flywheel puller for that, any snowmobile part's place would have those, as for your flooded crank, I don't believe rotax put "drain plug's" in thier crank's, doe's that olympique have a tillotson or mikuni? My 79 300 citation had a mikuni in it and had a single carb pump in it, what size olympique is it? 300, 340? poo-man
