Run sled without Rewind Starter Assembly Installed?

I broke the rope on my 95 Formula S 500. I wasn't ready to try to fix it myself so I took the rewind starter assembly out with the intent to bring it to shop for fix without bringing in entire sled. Problem? Lost the assembly.

Question: I've gotten good at using the usual 'broken rope starter' solution of pull starting (spare rope w plastic hook used to pull start the sled.

Now, I noticed that an oil line is fed into the starter assembly and mounts to the starter housing. Money's kind of tight at the moment so I'm wondering if I will damage the sled running it without the oil (?) hooked up to the recoil/rewind starter?

The kit to replace the lost one runs about $180 http://pdn1.vnexttech.com/ski/04/m96...les/10/1_0.png

I know, that was not the best written posting... happens when you grow up reading comics and playing guitar but never learn how to be a 'wrench' guy.
