I need some help from you guys that have done lots of tinkering . This may sound kinda silly to some of you but it's a common thing around here .
I bought a 1.5 x 133.5 used track to install on my 2001 600 classic touring ( yea yea I know why would anybody want a paddle track on a boat anchor )
Any how the sled has a xtra 12 suspension and does or did have a .91 track on it . We put the 1.5 inch track on it today and when we got the suspension all bolted back in the paddles were hitting the top section of the front heat exchanger by almost a 1/4 inch . I had asked a couple mechanics
around here and everyone seemed to thing it would work . I called one guy earlier tonight and he addmitted he had never done that on that type of sled. But thought it would work.
His only sugestions were to either trim off the heat exchanger where it was hitting ( which would reguire pulling the motor and removing it ) or to trim off the track till it fits.
I don't really like the thought of either and would rather just use the old track before i butchered a pefectly good 1.5 inch track or pulled a motor and cut off a heat exchanger.
Does anybody have any quick and simple solutions ?

Maybe shoot over to snow west or another such site, its possible the sled requires smaller drivers or a dropped case to make room for that track.

You can go to smaller diameter drive sprokets for this type of application. Since you have the track out anyways just get the sprockets replaced. You can get them from the royal catalogue. You would have to alter your gearing to compensate for the smaller diameter drive but they should be able to assist you with the proper ratio.

I wouldn't trim the track or especially the exchanger. You need as much cooling surface area as possible.

You will want to watch the slides with the 1.5 around here as they reduce the ammount of snow collected in the track on groomed trails due to the greater distance the windows are from the ground.

Thanks Scott I hada reply( on another site ) that said to change to 8 tooth drivers and it would fit. But your information on the gearing helped as well . Sounds like too much work for the hastle it is going to be , looks like in the morning I will be removing it and putting back in the .91 . Hey what else did a guy have to do all weekend !

Scott S no there are no trails anywhere near ready here , our groomer was out today leveling some plowed feilds that were plowed after we had pregroomed and went on one trail it had not been across yet this year. All that is left of the trail now is mud . At least it will be smooth IF we do get some snow . I did hear there was some area's south east of here that got a fair amount of snow and were getting close to thinking about opening. This is actually getting very depresing , if we don't get some snow soon and have a good amount of time to ride this year , I am afraid this whole industry will be in a real crapper next fall , for this area anyhow .

Are you talking about the track hitting the heat exchangers in the top of the tunnel - or the front? If it's the top ones, notching the track for clearance is not that big of a deal....there are several methods. You are this far into it, I'd finish it.

bring the track back and buy a 1.25" lug..........that seams like the most easy fix and it still gives you a more aggressive track..........

Ahh its too late to spend any more time on it . I spent the day taking out the 1.5 inch and put the old one back in . I'm trying to convince myself it was a leaning experiance and not a waste of a weekend . I might just sell the track and leave well enough alone . Thanks for the help everyone
