: Is The Rx-1 Worth It?
rjs5689 01-05-2003, 06:55 PM I am the proud 13 year old owner of a 2001 Polaris Indy Super Sport and my dad and owner of a 2001 Polaris Indy 700 XC SP. I heave heard alot of good news about the new RX-1 and have fallen in love with this amzing looking sled and amazinf preformer. my dad and i are considering one :) but i am wondering if the sled for about $8,999 is worth it. I would welcome any news and info about it as to how it preforms how its fit and finish is and even some negitive info because all i have heard was good. And how is it compared to the Polaris Frontier.
Thanx

Machzzzz1 01-05-2003, 08:01 PM You can't compare the RX-1 to a polaris 4 stroke.
THE RX-1 is a performance sled and it runs like one. It has pretty good power, and it does have good looks.
However for a trail rider I would get somthing that runs better on the trails. The RX-1 has skilift and its ride isnt the best.
If your trail riding and you got the money for a RX-1, Take a look at the skidoo Legend SDI. It makes more power then the RX-1. It is SDI which will start, Idle and Run like a 4 stroke except with much more get up and go. Plus It gets better gas milage and cleaner emitions. And it has no smoke or smell.
Check it out.
Sled Dogg 01-06-2003, 11:54 AM If your got ski lift out of a RX-1 Martin you wern't leaning at all. NEVER have i seen one lif a ski nor have I heard of any one else say it lifs a ski.

jimme 01-06-2003, 04:52 PM listen guys i own an artic cat zr 800
but also am quite fond of the rx1
i have ridden one for a few hundre miles
ive ridden it in the trails over the bumps and also had it on the lake
i absolutely loved every min of it
on the lake and wide open trails its tuff to beat
in tight trails it felt a bit uncomfortable at times but once you get through the corner your catctin whoever might have gained some distance on you
im am seriously considering buying one soon
they are a blast.

RX-1-4-ME 01-06-2003, 05:35 PM TO MACHZZZZ1, DUDE YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO SLEEP..ZZZZZZ......OBVIOUSLY U HAVENT GOT A CLUE, THAT LEGEND SLEDS NOT HALF THE PERFORMER THE RX-1 IS, PLUS WHY WOULD WE LISTEN TO YOU YOU RIDE A MACH Z? YES VERY FAST SLED BUT JEES IN THE TRAILS? FORGET IT! MY BROTHER HAS ONE I HATE RIDING IT AND GUESS WHAT? SO DOES HE, HE COMPLAINS ABOUT HIS ACHEN BACK ALL THE TIME! UNTILL YA HIT A MILE OR MORE STRAIGHT AWAY, AND HEY GUESS WHATELSE, MY RX-1 IS JUST AS FAST! SURPRISED? WE STILL HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO HIT A NICE 1.5 OR LONGER STRAIGHT SO I THINK I CAN TAKE HIM TOP END, BUT WE WILL HIS TOPS OUT AROUND 120 IVE HAD MINE GOING 130 ALLREADY.
ON THE BAD SIDE ITS A LITTLE TIPPY IN THE HARD CORNERS,(BUT SO IS A MACH Z) BUT TIGHTEN UP THE FRONT SPRINGS AND INVEST IN STIFFER TORSION BARS UP FRONT, AND YOUR SET! ALSO THE SNOW FLAP KEPT GETTING SUCKED UP INTO THE TRACK AND MY STUDS TORE IT UP. BUT I HAD SVERAL GUYS TELL ME THATS COMMON ON A LOT OF SKI-DOOS!
RACED ON A LAKE YESTERDAY 100 SLEDS NOT ONE FASTER THAN MINE, GIVEN MY BROTHERS MACH WAS POORLY ABSENT. ALL THE SLEDS WERE TWIN 800 AND LESS ONE TRIPPLE ZRT 800, WALKED AWAY FROM THEM ALL, FROM START TO FINISH, EVERYONE COULDNT BELIEVE THE STARTS THAT 4 STROKE WAS GETTING, THIS WEEK I'M GONNA GET A HEEL CLICKER CLUTCH KIT SEE IF I CAN DO SOME MORE DAMAGE NEXT WEEKEND.
Machzzzz1 01-06-2003, 05:54 PM First off. The Mach is not tippy in corners. It is a very very stable sled that almost exibits no inside skilift. The problem when going around corners with the Mach is having the rear of the sled slide out on you.
Not to pat my own back, But im very dangerous with the Mach in trails when i want to be. The only sled that i would say has a advantage in the trails is a REV. ZXs are fast but a good rider on the CK3 can go pretty good as well.
Second.
Im sure there are others on this site who have logged more miles then me on a RX-1. But from my experiance with this sled I have found that the digital speedo reads way of, were as the Machs is only about 5km fast. 130MPH on the RX-1 speedo translates to about 118mph. At least with the one I was on.
Third,
The ledgend SDI makes better lowend power and pulls stronger then the Carbed twin found in the MXZ800. The same mxz800 which i watched beat the RX-1 countless of times last weekend. The only diffrence with the ledgend is Mirrors, Tilt steering, and electric start+battery.
The RX-1 is a good sled and it is worth the money. But like the Mach it is a old school sled which is dated already. All it has is an engine (Same as the Mach) and there is better out there. You have already proven my point about the inside skilift. Sure with a lot of suspention tuning that might be taken care of. However thats one problem that the CK3 doesnt have so it must be really dated.
Also in a non bashing way, Let me address the weight of this sled. It is heavy. Heavier then the Mach. Im not the kind of sledder to complain about weight but there are others out there that do. A guy towing a inclosed trailer with 3 or more sleds with a gas engine will notice the diffrence. Also conditions such as powder can put a damper on your day.
Not to offend any RX-1 owners, But i have a feeling that if the RX-1 was made in 1998 and was untouched, Today it would be getting the same horrible comments from the magazines like the Mach. Heavy, Cant Handle, Only fast in a line.
Sound familier doesnt it.
rjs5689 01-06-2003, 06:04 PM :( :( <------ thats hpow i fell right now.. im in love w/ the RX-1 and im determaind to get one but after hearing some of this i dunno if i want one :( :cussing: so do you think its a shot and try it our just stuck to a totaly differnt sled and just go w/ the 500 XC SP. if i am getting a sled its gonna be all out on the RX-1 or just an Indy 500 which do you think is the better here (i knoe they are hard to compare)
Machzzzz1 01-06-2003, 06:13 PM Not to talk over my own words. But dont take it like that.
The RX-1 may be dated IMO, But so is the Mach which is IMO one of the best sleds on the Market today. It all depends on what your looking for in a Machine.
If you looking for a machine to cruise the trails, Hit a few lakes then the RX-1 is your wagon. But if you want to get on the trails ride hard hit some bumps. Stay away, cuz you will be fighting it all day, when all you had to do is buy a sled that does what you want better.
IMO Check out the REV. It may not have the top end like a RX-1 but accel is right there. And in my opinion, The rev has it all. It handles bumps, Lakes, Trails, Mogals, whatever and the best part about it is for you it felt like a freshly groomed trail.
Steven Hohman 01-06-2003, 06:21 PM It seems like this is a tricky topic....
The RX-1 is a great looking sled. The RX-1 will last you many years of abuse. The RX-1 is a new product in the 4 stroke path. According to some the RX-1 feels lighter than 640 lbs. The RX-1 has a good-looking front end. The RX-1 comes with Electric Start
The RX-1 weighs somewhere around 640 full. The RX-1 (as quoted) "has ski lift". The RX-1 has an "alright" rear suspension but there will always be better.
In my opinion and if I had 9,000 to shove up for a new sled, I would go for the RX-1, Yamaha's ingenuity and resources have built this motor well.
konkinj 01-06-2003, 08:37 PM hey machz "the only sled that has an advantage in the trails is a REV". Are you drunk? If that's what you think, you ARE dangerous on the trails.
SD_Sledhead 01-06-2003, 08:41 PM Considering your 13, I think the power and weight would be a little too much for you to handle on the RX-1. The indy is a very good sled and very reliable, the RX-1 is unproven for reliability. If I were you I'd go with the indy.
mxzx600 01-06-2003, 09:23 PM Just my Opinion I havent rode none yet this year cause broke my leg early in the season. But my buddy that rides yamaha has rode the rx-1 and he hates it. I do know where my money is going next season right to a rev 600 HO. I hope in march can get back on and ride and get my own opinion, but the guys I ride with ride like me and I beleive what they say. And one thing I have a 2001 mxzx 600 and I guarntee it will take any sled in the woods except the new rev. The true test for the rx1 will be the Iron Dog, just for you guys that dont know that is a 2000 mile cross country race in Alaska, and there is going to be 2 teams of rx1's in it so see if they make the distance. That starts Feb 9th and if anyone is interested the site is www.irondog.org I was supposed to be on ski-doo racing in it this year but broke leg put a stop to that, but next year be there. The only thing I have seen the rx1 good for was ice racing it kicks butt there.
Mighty RX-1 01-06-2003, 10:37 PM machzzzz1, there you go again about weight. The machZ is heavier than the RX-1! And to boot, it rides like it's 100 pounds lighter. As you know, I'm qualified to say this being that I have had 3 machs and now own a RX-1. Lastly, you're really stretching saying that someone towing a bunch of RX-1's would really notice it, yea, if the riders stayed on them while they were trailered, come on!
smokin 700 01-06-2003, 11:05 PM I've ridden Polaris for years and have to say way to go yamaha! As far as four strokes go what a sled. I haven't ridden one but would like to try some time. As far as performance they compare with hot 600's and stock 700's. At the radar runs I seen speeds around 100, not real impressed for 9000.00. I think this is a good first step for a real 4 stroke performance sled. I would wait a couple years before I really considered buying one. But as far as 4 strokes go yamaha is the only game in town.
RocklandRX1 01-07-2003, 06:35 AM RX-1 4 ME,
Is your RX1 stock? You mentioned you are thinking about heelclickers. I am in the process of
determining what mods to make to mine. I want to know what is the best setup for the money?
How many miles on your RX1?
Mike
Heavy 01-07-2003, 07:42 AM My father in law added a heel clicker to his rx1 and it works well. Before the heel clicker it took him awhile to pass my mxz800, now he goes by me at (takes about 300 feet) a real good pace and keeps pulling hard. I put on alot of miles on this sled and it doesn't feel heavy at all.
RocklandRX1 01-07-2003, 08:15 AM Thanks for the reply!
Still have not decided on what to do however. I have heard postitive and negative things about
just heelclickers. I am curious on the difference in performance between a kit and HCs.
Mike
Panasync19 01-07-2003, 11:07 AM I aint here to start anything. But, I observed many sleds racing on the local bay Sunday. It was a 1/2 mile run.
Watched a '01 MachZ, '01 Thundercat, '03 Zr 900, and '02 xcsp 800 consistantly pull the RX-1 3-10 sled lenghts.
Rx-1 is fast, but not that fast.
