Hi Freezerburnt

I'm also a trail warden.
I've personally never been threatened by anyone on the trails.
Most people treat you with respect. They know the rules before they go and ride. I've only twice had to ask 2 groups of riders to leave the trail system. They didn't give me a hard time. They just got off the trail within sight of where we were stopped and went down the shoulder of the road. Both times I figured they would just get back on at the next concession and continue on their way. Surprisingly enough they kept going down the road back to where they started out from.

To a certain extent, the reaction you get depends on how you approach the individuals. I never threaten or try to force anyone into buying a trail permit. I offer it to them and if they choose to buy one as is usually the case, then we all have a great day. If they choose not to buy one then I ask them to leave the trail at the nearest road junction. I've yet to lay a trespass to property charge.

For the most part you meet some of the greatest people out there that just want to know trail conditions ahead of them, where the closest restaurant or gas station is located and how to get to where they're trying to get to.

I certainly have no regrets becoming a trail warden. It only requires an 8 hour training course with mandatory upgrade training every 2 years.
I hope this helps.

Card carrying bonified trail warden !
Yes I have no regrets in becoming a warden or have had any problems with riders. I'm not robo cop and don't act like it , although I am the most agressive warden our club has and seem to pray on young riders on 340 yanaha's that have no permit . Never actually havehad anyone charged with trespassing but now with Bill 101 enforceable the opp's can help us out a lot while wardening and let them lay the $ 205 fine .
Like Jeff said most people that do have a permit are glad to see you out there working for them and are asking trail information.

Perhaps Indy and Trail could have a little talk with a trail warden in the Innisfil Club......... this guy is a real D.I.C.K.... and will charge you for anything he can........ to make things worse he is an axuillary cop now and has a hard on for N-E One doing anything wrong....

Looks like he had a little (ok BIG) weight problem and couldn't meet the regular cop program and got cut some now he is trying to take it out on the only people he can with his macho attitude.....lol, I know this guy too and he would still bust his friends......what a looser :sly:

Ride safe........

Wow... around here we don't have wardens. We have state police. In my limited encounters with them, they're great guys that are interrested in the sport just as much as us. They just have the authority to not have to put up with idiots that challenge them.

Got a pistol Freezer? I know there is a big difference between DNR and Trail Wardens, but DNR officers have disappeared here and never seen again.

That's because they are all around Lewiston. :(

I was a warden with some buddies in the Port Perry area for a few years. We worked very close with the Durham Regional Police. But, with the winters we have been having lately, I have been trailering north to put miles on!!

Maybe next year at a different club... perhapes Twin Mountains... I really like their trail system.

I agree with Freezer, you always seem to find one of the guys on a power trip... but yah... 99% are good ones.

I do 90% of my riding in the Lewiston area and have not seen any law enforcement in 15 years. Of course most of the time we do not ride groomed trails.(way to much traffic and not enough snow). My buddy lives just east of lewiston all his life so he knows every logging trail and pipeline in the area. We,ll ride 300 miles a weekend and hardly ever cross our own tracks. Maybe I will see you up there sometime. Talley's has the best burgers around.

I ride mostly around Grayling/Kalkaska area and see very few tree cops around here (maybe one a year). I been stopped three times in one day while riding in Haughton lk., which really made me feel good because I've never seen more drunks than on that trail system ever in my life!
