I noticed that when I put the brakes on my headlight dims both high and low beams. This only happens when I have my hand and or thumb warmers on. Is this a problem with my voltage regulator? I had to put a new brake light switch on, did I put it on the wrong way or does it not matter which way it gets hooked up. I also had my electric shield plugged in.

Thanks in advance.

Well, the lighting coils aren't very big on the triples. Maybe 185W Lights, warmers and shield, brake light all on at same time . Yes, will dim some at idle.

Should go away at 2000rpm or above.

Why ? was it different before you replaced the brake switch ???

I was pretty sure it worked fine before. This happens now when I'm slowing down so I should be above 2000rpm.

I have a 800 ZRT the same thing happens to me
I don't have a sheild heater and all my lights and switches are factory
I just assumed it was becaues of low rpm, I didn't think of it as a problem

It just seems logical to me that lights will dim as we sit at idle if we don't have a battery system. It takes some RPM to generate the power for our intstruments, heating and lighting.

I could live with a little dimming but this almost out, it actually makes for stopping quickly quite scary.

No way that it should all but cut out your lights but yes some dimming is normal. What was the problem that led you to replace the switch? If burnt out there could/likely is a short in the brake light circuit. Sounds like a little investigative work is in order before your issue grows.

Rick.

The switch actually broke, the little plastic peice inbetween thn the connectors broke, and all the wiring checked out ok.

Have you tried just tapping the brake while riding, do the lights dim even at higher rpm?

Yup, that is why I'm so confused. I'm going to try switching the connections around on the brake switch and see what happens this weekend.
