I was wondering what kind of gas mileage the liberty 500's and 600's were getting, is there really that much difference?? ???

Ya but you guys forget that Ski-Doo doesnt get that much better fuel mileage than Polaris in general...Cat is by far the leader in that department........The ZR800EFI and the ZR900 get the best economy and thats FACT. I dont know what the F7 will do but it seems to be in the ball park

 I agree, I own a 2003 Polaris 500 XC SP, it gets 13 mpg
also, my buddy has a 600 xc sp, and he pretty much gets the same thing, anyways the gas mileage is well worth it, but i am kind of wishing i would have gotten a 600 now that my buddy beats me every time. :withstupid:

Back to the fuel economy. To be honest with you, I'm pretty dissapointed with the fuel economy on my 500 ves. My buddy has a '02 mxz 500 and when I'm on empty he almost has a have tank left.

Polaris are known not to be the best of fuel or oil. I knew that very well when buying the sled, so I guess I shouldn't complain now.

I haven't even checked the gas mpg on my snowmobile, but its so damn fun to ride it keeps me distracted and not thinking about mpg!!!

SD_Sledhead. I'm curious as to how your sled runs. How it stacks up against the competition acceleration wise and on the top end side?

Mine tends to run fairly strong against 600 twins until about 70 where it runs out of legs. I see on average 94-95mph from speedo.

Are you seeing similar results?

I really haven't ran it much against anything much bigger yet. It'll run right with the 600's, but we haven't done much from a standstill. I've raced many zr 500's, 98-00 and it would beat all of those. I have a 1.25" track though. I don't have enough miles on to tell what its really like yet though. I've only got about 270 miles on and they were all in the mountains. We didn't have any snow here last year and it doesn't look like we'll get any this year. Do you have any setups that you've found for yours yet?

I bought the sled as a New Current in the summer time. So far this year I've put 800 miles on it mostly up north and on the local lake.

Yesterday I ordered a EPI Pro-Series Clutch Kit from Erlandson Performance.

I'll let you know how it works.

I'm not sure where you are getting your info that Polaris is not good for gas mileage or oil comsumption.

My wife rides an 2002 XC 500 ves and got 16-almost 18 mpg last season and my son's 2002 XC 700 ves got 16 to 18+. The oil consumption on both sleds . Both sleds used a quart or less of VES oil for 130 miles. (the 700's oil consumption was actually less than the 500).

I think this has a lot to do with how the dealer sets up the sleds. We deal with Nelson's Speed Shop in Greenville, MI and have always gotten good gas mileage and oil consumption with our Polaris sleds.

Remember, it has to do with how you ride also. I am very aggressive. If your just put, putting along, then your economy will be much more tolerable. I'm not going to go on record and question your mpg numbers, but If your gettting what you say, get me your dealers number immediately!

BTW, My brother has a '03 Edge X 700 ves and it gets 8-9mpg on average.

Happy Trails.

When you get a new polaris you can lean it down, they are always jetted a little rich. This should help out the MPG.

hey "ridesno" what is it your dealer does to set up to get that kind of mileage?
I have 2 '03 Classic 500s and both only get 9 mpg. they also seem to overheat too easliy.

There's not much that a dealer can do to improve gas milage very much, unless you ask them specifically to try to do something.
Things that will improve gas milage;
Having your carbs synced properly,
Jetting the machine as lean as possible,
Adjusting the driven so that it will shift out a bit faster.

The biggest thing you can do to affect gas milage is change the way you drive. Easy on the throttle, keep speeds down, don't be gooseing it all the time. You'll notice a big improvement in gas milage for sure, though you probably won't have half as much fun either.

??? what does "adjusting the driven so that it shifts out a bit faster" mean? :withstupid: (sorry for the dumb question)

You change the position of the spring in the driven so that there is less tension on it, which will allow the belt to shift down into the driven faster.
This effectivly allows the machine to be in a higher "gear" which will improve the milage at the expense of some performance.

The other methods of improving gas mileage (Jetting and carb tuning) will also improve performance.

I have an 02 XC 700 VES and I constantly see 11-12 MPG and I don't put put around either, I jetted down two sizes on the main and dropped the clip a 1/2 notch. I also run the track as loose as possible as I believe that also makes a big difference. I run with a 02 XC 600 VES and I always use less gas then he does, he is always scratching his head when we fill up.
