It has been awhile, but I believe that there is a ring in the center that keeps you from pushing the bushing(s) straight through. Each half has to be driven from the center outwards. I read this too late, hope you got it together to ride!

This is probably too late but what I do is find a half inch socket that has the same diameter as the bushing and put the socket, bushing and end of the arm in my vise. I then use a pipe over the vise handle for leverage and very slowly press it in. The trick of course is keeping the three components in-line. I've done it three times with good results. Also, you want to make sure the outer socket shell is pressing on the outer bushing shell or else your going to press out the center rubber.
