: I Don't Know What Springs I Need For My Sled

I need to upgrade the springs on my sled. The stock ones are too soft and can't handle my 250lbs.

I have no idea (nor does my dealer) which of these springs are square or round just by the part number descriptions, and I can't figure out which springs I need.

Here's what I know:

Stock springs:
1604-818 and 1604-819 were replaced by 0704-892 and 0704-893.
.405 diameter sqware.

Suggested by local dealer:

1604-380 and 1604-381.
.452 diameter, 8x22 77 deg (What's that mean??)
He says that I'd need to cut these to the proper length.

Suggested as replacement by forum member:

1604-604 and 1604-605 were replaced by 0704-944 and 0704-945
These were used on a million sleds including:
02 4 stroke touring
02 panther 570
02 pantera 600/800EFI
01 LE Mountian Cat 600/800/600EFI
2000 Thundercat
and a bunch of others.

These sleds use the same block part number as mine (does that mean that the spring is square like mine?)

1604-442 and 1604-443 were replaced by 0704-938 and 0704-939.
.452 diameter, used on 02 ZR 800 EFI CC. The sled uses the same block number as mine.

Does anybody know what the heck springs I need? :nervous:

anybody?

Somebody with a ZR or ZL must have swapped springs.

Your dealer should have a sheet in his product cataloge with the different Cat springs, free lengths, spring Dia, compression rates and sled applications.

I have replaced the spring in the front arms of my T-Cat. We whent from the stock spring, (I think it was a 115 lbs spring), to a 135 lbs spring. Do not remember the part numbers or compressed lengths.

The list my dealer has showed the springs for all Cat sleds, I know the T-Cat optional springs could also go in the 600 & 800 SS's as well.

It also showed a list of all rear skid and front A-Arm optional springs.

If your current dealer can't find this sheet, try another dealer. The list is right from Cat.

I will post the Cat part numbers of the springs I put in on Mon.

Jim85IROC,

I have a performance manual at home and will look up some additional part numbers when I get home tonite.

I think 8x22 77deg means

8 wraps
22" long leg (hence the need for trimming)
77 degrees between the two legs of the springs.

Thanks guys, but everything is figured out. I had a chat with my dealer and my service manual cd came in. The 8x22 is the length of the spring in both directions. the 77 is the degree split. My manual has the list that Northern Rider is referring to and I learned everything I need to from that.

But... my dealer also suggested that I move my rear arm mounting position back a hole or 2 and see how that works out first before I buy any springs. I'm going to try that before I buy new springs.
