My spring was changed on my TRA by the previous owner. How big a deal is it to change the spring, and should I go back to stock? (96 MXZ670) I have the puller and the retainer clips. My secondary will be set at 16lbs with the new white spring and teflon buttons. Helix- 50/47

Not a big deal.

Pull the clutch off. Actually, you don't need to
pull the clutch off. Just remove the bolt and slide
the outer half off.

Then using the button holders, slide the outer
cup off.

You'll find the spring held on by a cover with 3 allen
screws in the clutch piece with the sheeve.

Put a BIG long bolt in a vise facing upwards. Put
large washers on the bottom and put the bolt
through the clutch. Now put a washer and nut on the
top and tighten it down on the cover.

Take out the allen screws. Then unscrew the nut
from the long bolt and remove the cover.

Replace spring and do the entire thing in reverse.
10-15 minutes tops - once you get the hang of it.

One other thing. All the parts of the clutch have
alignment arrows on them - even the cover holding
the spring. Make sure to align them all when
reassembling.

Good luck and if you get in a bind, just post and someone
will probably answer within minutes. That's been
my experience.

We always use a drill press to hold the spring cup down when we take the allen screws out. It works good for us!
