: Apauling Gas Mileage
sledjunky 01-11-2003, 08:05 PM I only get about 40 miles per tank on my 97 700 indy... i have checked the jetting and the e-clip stc and everything seems to be ok... Would my v-force reeds be causing this if they are worn out? The thing runs like a hot damn though. No complaints there.
xc 600 01-11-2003, 08:07 PM Maybe you just have a fuel leak some place.

xc 600 01-11-2003, 10:37 PM rezonator who do you thing you are. I had the same problem on my 98 xc 600 the fuel bowls leaked gas when I drove the sled. It never leaked when sitting still or over night. Just when I drove the sled the gaskets were dried out. Never had hard starting or anything because the fuel doesn't sit that high on the carbs. Still ran strong.
sledjunky 01-12-2003, 01:35 AM i just had the carbs apart and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the gaskets... how did you find out that that was the problem xc 600? And thanks for the reply :)
OMOTM 01-12-2003, 07:25 AM Try throwing a match. J/K If no leak is obvious, pull one of your spark plugs and check the color of the electrode. It could be that you are burning the gas. I put on about 46 miles today, every sled there, including the RX1 was on fumes when we returned to the truck, the snow was deep and heavy.

xc 600 01-12-2003, 12:42 PM My dealer said too, he said they always replace them when they clean keihin carbs. I had just got the sled, cleaned the carbs made 60 miles tank was almost empty. Asked the dealer about it he said replace the gaskets and check the float height so thats what I did made 90 to a tank ever since. The float did need some adjustment. Float high should be 16mm+-2mm tool PN 2872126. Also check carb synchronization.

Ouch that kind of riding can be hard on the wallet. ;)
I put about 49 iles on my 03 SKS 700 today. done a bit of everything. trail breaking ,drags on the Pond, and some trail riding. had my key on the ON/REG position and I am about 1/2 way between the 3/4 and 1/2 mark on the gyage. I figured that was great gas milage. concidering I do alot of pumping the throttle playing around waiting for the slower riders to catch up.
I am guessing I am getting around 10 MPG give or take 1 mpg :)
sledjunky 01-13-2003, 07:10 PM the plugs look fine.... the mods i have on the sled are the v-force reeds, psi pipes and a 2 inch track. I will replace the gaskets though and see if the mileage improves... thanks for the help!
xc 600 01-13-2003, 07:45 PM Pipes, big track, maybe 60 Miles to a tank if you are lucky.
98xc700 01-13-2003, 11:54 PM That mileage would seem alright if it were about a 5 gallon tank. ;)
OMOTM 01-14-2003, 01:33 AM Obviously 98XC700, you have never been deep mountain free riding. No trails, no signs , nothing but wide open deep powder riding. We pick a point and head for it, stopping to jump cornices and play in natural terrain features.

atrappe 01-15-2003, 02:46 PM Check out this site http://www.mcbperformance.com/xc700.html. He has a carb clean up kit that will make a night and day difference. You will not believe it!! I am running twin pipes with 215 mains and am getting 12 MPH. The owner Matt specializes in XC mods.

That sounds like a blast! I love that picture above of open, untouched snow, yummy.
sledjunky 01-18-2003, 07:12 PM what is a good way to measure the float height without the tool?
