: Better Stator?
BellevilleMXZ 01-12-2003, 06:51 PM Anyone ever put a higher output stator in a 00 700 twin?? :cussing: What years have a higher output. I'm tired of freezing my hands, and the dim lights!! :cussing: They MUST have come up with something bigger for the Grandtourings with the twins.
doo900 01-12-2003, 07:55 PM even the 02 hand warmers are not great ,they are better but not great, they work real good if you stay at a steady throttle position for a while , then your hands will warm up
Heavy 01-12-2003, 08:25 PM well I hope the 03's are better because my handwarmers sux.
800 X 01-12-2003, 08:37 PM I know the magneto output (290) from the 2000 to 2002 hasn't changed.I think I read a post on here about spraying aerosol insulation inside the handlebars and that made the bar warmers seem hotter.

I have done that, seemed to help a little bit
doo900 01-12-2003, 09:15 PM the 02 grand tourings put out 360 watts 'but i dont know if it will fit ' i will be finding out cause mine got dropped and i need to order a new one
PANTERAONE 01-12-2003, 11:31 PM i also sprayed some insulation inside and the warmers are warmer than before...still not as good as a yamaha or polaris warmer
BellevilleMXZ 01-12-2003, 11:36 PM Yeah, did the insulation thing, but not alot better. What a POS design this is. Buddies Viper , just idling, headlight stays just as bright as driving down the trail. mine, lights dim, gotta keep the warmers on high all the time if its good and cold.Anyone know if 03 ststors put out ever more? Like in the GT??
mxz800 01-13-2003, 09:21 AM speak to your dealer ...i think the one out of a 1999 mach z will work....
doo900 01-13-2003, 05:27 PM the dealers don't recommend putting in a 360 watt stator cause of the regulator and other wiring issues' the wiring may not handle it i guess
BellevilleMXZ 01-13-2003, 07:18 PM Its only 70watts more, that makes no sense, wiring is plenty heavy enough for that. Plus its controled by the reg. anyway, so it only puts out what it needs.
mxz800 01-14-2003, 02:02 PM did you find a stator ...that will work ? ?
BellevilleMXZ 01-14-2003, 08:11 PM Well from what i can see from looking at the dealer, nothing from bombi, without atleast swapping the flywheel. :cussing: Gueess I'll try aftermarket.
Walrus 01-14-2003, 11:03 PM Cut the stupid grips off and rip off the useless elements that are epoxied directly to the METAL handlebars. Stupidest design ever. They pretty much have to warm the handlebar before they will warm your hands.
I replaced mine with the Hot Grips brand, with the external wire. Element is in the grip, wire comes out the inboard end (next to the throttle/brake) and you tuck the wire under the handlebar cover, just like the throttle cable, brake line, thumb warmer wire etc. I also put some regular home pink insulation in the bar ends. Rode last weekend in -10c with high wind.. high setting was too hot. Low setting.. a little too low.. similar to the high setting on the stock bars.
BellevilleMXZ 01-14-2003, 11:36 PM In that temp, this is tolerable, but I use a heated shield, so when it -25 like it was last fri. I froze. On top of that, I would like the lights brighter. Anyway, what i'm going to do,since I can't seem to find a stator cure easy, is replace the stock tail lite bulb with a LED which draws less current, and maybe even put a switch on the headlights and run with them off during the day, which is mostly when its bad, as i am riding faster.
