I have an '89 MX462. It will top out around 160km/h. I've had it going 140km/h at 7000rpm so i still have some room to play. Not sure of my carb settings, clutches, etc..

We owned several of the older style MXs (1988-1992).These sleds topped out around 140 kph on normal conditions and a little higher on ice. These engines were reletavily low revvers so 7000 is about right.I don't think you'll gain anything by revving it any higher. My brother and I both had our 88 MXs almost touch the 160 (on speedo) on a nice crusty ice surface on a lake after a thaw melted the snow and then refroze.Back when our sleds were reletively new they said these motors didn't respond well to mods.I don't know if that has changed or not but its a great little fuel effecient very reliable engine the way it is.

I personally havnt put on mods on, but i bought the sled with a brand new motor. It might of had something done to it??

Anyways when i hit 140 it was still pulling. Seems like it will go faster, didnt want to push it. Its studded and i was on hardpacked snow.

What is the redline on these before it will blow?, i dont want to over-rev it and blow the thing up.

I wouldn't worry about blowing it up.I'm sure it would safely turn 8000 rpm or more but unless the clutching or gearing has been changed it likely won't ever see that.Even if your sled was still pulling at 140 it likely will just stay at 7000 The clutches will keep upshifting to keep it at 7000 even though you may go faster.
