: Firecat?
ZR Rider 01-13-2003, 01:32 PM OK... I have been riding Cat for the last few years, and I love my sled! Now that being said... I have seen a few REV's on the trail and I am finding myself liking them.
So my question is this... Is Cat going to remodel the FireCat to a REV sort of sled or not?
I sat on a FireCat at the sled show and again at my dealers, the sled just doesn't feel comfortable! Not sure what it is... but it does. But the REV fits almost to good for someone my size! (6'4" 235lbs.)
Thought maybe it was the bars... but I sat on a 02 ZR 600 CC and it felt good too!
Any thoughts?
jdsmi 01-13-2003, 01:52 PM I wouldn't expect a "Rev wannabe" from Cat. They both (Rev and Firecat) are accomplishing the same principle - Mass/Rider centralization but are going about it differently. I would expect to see more refinements to the Firecat - possibly moving the rider forward similar to the REV. But make no mistake, it will be a Firecat, not a REV.
ZR Rider 01-13-2003, 01:56 PM Yah, I have seen a few articles saying that, but man... lets see some pics or something!!
I heard that Tucker would have a different sled for the X Games... but I can't see Cat having a fresh sled for that!!
Would be nice to know what's coming down the pipe that's all.
jdsmi 01-13-2003, 02:07 PM You can bet that Tucker will be riding something different @ the X-Games but it'll be cammo'd to look like an Open Sno-Pro. Consider the sled he won gold on. That thing was closer to the current Sno-Pro/F-cat than anything. It just looked like the current year sled.
1greenmachine 01-13-2003, 02:09 PM I have also heard and read rumors of tucker having a different sled but i think cat will stay with the f7 right now all the developement money they've put into it they can't affod to scrap it. They need to use their time getting all the bugs out of the f7s
jdsmi 01-13-2003, 02:15 PM It's Cat's pattern. What Tucker is testing now will trickle down to the F series next year (if it works and proves economical).
ZR Rider 01-13-2003, 02:34 PM Well... as a Cat rider... they better get there butts in overdrive, 2 of the guys that I ride with are already thinking 04 600 REV's
I on the other hand, I sort of want to stay GREEN. Not sure if there is a new sled in the works for me for next year or the year after. But I hope by then my vision won't be clouded with thoughts of Skidoo yellow!! lol
In the Cats Pride, they had a writeup about Tuckers "gold medal" open sled, pretty wild.
rob7374 01-13-2003, 02:37 PM My understanding is that Tucker is already riding something new. Any one at the WSA races this weekend that can confirm this?
ArTeeCat 01-13-2003, 03:01 PM Over the weekend I put miles on a rev 800 and a f7. rev is definately a neat position for tight curvy trails. For fast crusing and cornering the firecat is deffinately the sled. I guess the question is what type of riding do you do more. crusing or tight winding cornering (the type of trails thaat tend to be rough.
konkinj 01-13-2003, 05:46 PM 1) Don't bet on a chassis replacement after 1 year.
2) Don't believe everything you read in magazines.
3) Try riding an F (or an RX1 for that matter) in a pounded out ditch. Both of these sleds rock. This is not to say that REV's are not very good also (but I have not driven one).
Just my opinion.
caper711cc 01-13-2003, 05:59 PM Kon`how did you come up with a RX-1 as a ditch
banger? The `7 and the Rev would leave it cold
turkey with a average rider .The Rev owners who
bought a 800 must be impressed after last weeks
release of the H.O.The average `800rev has a hard
time running with a 600 rev.The new one will walk
the current one pretty bad.I would be pissed if Cat did
that a current model year on a new model.Just my .02 cents.........
Cape Breton Stock............................
konkinj 01-13-2003, 06:32 PM Caper, RX1 is not the best ditch machine out there, just a waaaaay better than I expected, based on all the magazine articals I have read about it (i got to ride one hard on Saturday). You are absoluely right about the F and Rev. Unfortunatly, you are also right about the REV800. Ski-Doo dealers have really done a good job in my area with these, and now that HO model is going to #### a lot of these guys off.

I think some one has there sleds mixed up. Doo did not release an 800 ho in a regular rev. The new Morgan Rev has the standard 800 in it. The Summit Rev has the HO.

I dont think you know what the hell you are talking about......A Rev wanaBe from cat....LMAO get a grip...
As for the 800HO engine... it will only be in the new REV Mountain to compete with the MC900...........so you wont be breaking any REV800 speed records with it......
jdsmi 01-14-2003, 11:19 AM Did I miss something? The guy asked if Cat was going to come out with a REV-like sled. I added my 2 cents that translates - NO (at least it won't look like one)!
Lighten up Sled-buddy!
sled-head 01-14-2003, 01:38 PM Thats too funny :D I look back at my post and it makes no sence....lol I guess thats what happens when I log on to early and my eyes are still full of glue......lol.....JK.....hope I didnt offend you......I'm sorry man
jdsmi 01-14-2003, 01:48 PM :p No problem man... :p
Wildcat 007 01-14-2003, 01:57 PM lol
GregZR500 01-14-2003, 02:02 PM I keep thinking about this when I am out on the trail... thinking "would it be better if I were sitting upright now?" When I am in the really tight trails (that haven't been groomed) with lots of bumps, yes I admit sometimes I find myself sitting upright. But that is usually only when I get hard on the brakes and start to understeer. Usually I am hung off one side of the sled or the other, weighing next to nothing I have to throw around all the body weight I have :) And keep it as far back as I can to get traction.
In theory I like that the F series has done, push the weight back while maintaining a 'normal' driving position. Anyway not having driven either I can't compare. What is the weight of the Revs? Are they as light as the Firecats? I just couldn't image going from my ZR 500 to an F7, gaining 44 hp and losing 40 lbs, that's just nuts :)
