Well, my sled went through the ice on Sunday in about 7 feet of water. It was submerged for about 2 hours. What kind of electronic problems am I looking at? How durable is the EFI modual? Will getting wet damage it?

I would be interested in hearing about what others have had to do after going in the drink.

Thanks,

Ken.

Well it's good to see your ok. Well first off I would take apart your engine (in a heated garage) let them sit for a day. Take your seat and I hear you can put a peace of plywood under it and on top of it and drive over it with your vehicle to squeeze the water out. Also its almost a given you will need a new headlight. Maybe some others can give you more info..thats my two sense. oh and take off all the exhaust, it holds alot of water. When you put it back together I would put carb cleaner and dry gas in it. Good luck sorry to hear about your sled.

MrZ

Thank you for the reply and your concern. It surely could have been much worse. I am very lucky.

As soon as it was out of the water I pulled the plugs. After turning the crank slowly to make sure it wasn't hydro-locked, I repeatedly pulled the starter rope to get the water out of the motor. When I got home I pulled the exhaust and poured a quart of injection oil in the spark plugs while the pistons were at the bottom so that it would run down the transfers. Then I repeatedly pulled the rope again to try and work this through the engine. I repeated this several times until the mist coming out of the spark plugs appeared like pure oil. (No water.)

My primary concern now is electrical. I have no spark. Also, the fuel pump runs whenever the battery is hooked up, even when the key is turned off. Before it went in the water the fuel pump never ran unless the key was on. I hope it is just a bad ignition switch.

Anybody have any insights on potential problems with EFI system?

By the way, surprisingly, it doesn't seem like the seat soaked up much moisture at all.

if this makes you feel any better a friend of mine bought a 88 corvette that was in a flood and was totally submerged, he got the car drained the fluids and changed them, hosed out the interior "it was muddy" including the radio!, dryed the whole car out, amazingly the car was fine except for 3 burnt bulbs in the dash!!!, he drives this car with no ill affects still today.

If the computer isn't water tightwould guess your going to have to replace it. When a circuit board gets wet and isn't dried immediatly it doesn't take long for it to corrode and start connecting leads togethor. Also your probably goign to want to go through all your connections pull them apart clean them and apply that electric grease stuff that helps it make contact can't remeber the name. Hope you get all figured out soon and glad to hear your alright.
