Hi All,

Picked up the sled from the welder. Did a good job and charged a fair price ($150 CDN flat). If you are in Ottawa it was done by Johnson Welding on Beech Street off of Preston.

He welded a 0.100" plate on the side with the crack and buckling, repairing the crack first. Then he welded up all the cracks (even a few I missed) and fixed the flange on the other side which had ripped off.

Put a level on it (with the skis level) it sits 0.135" higher on the side that buckled. However my suspension may not be adjusted 'level', but from eyeballing it, that number seems about right. When we started it was about 1/2" higher, so it is better.

Hopefully have it back together by the weekend.

That price is way beyond fair...great deal. The replair looks first rate, let us know how the sled feels and handles. Don't forget to clean out the coolant hoses etc. for any weld spatter and or dirt before reassembley.
Cheers
Rick.

Yeah I was really happy with the work and fee. I kinda wanted to weld it myself but I don't have my mig setup for aluminium, it would have cost me more than that just for the bottle of argon, and I would have done a horrible job :)

If you look close you can see that the lower coolant hose is plugged (it's red), but I will clean up all the filings and splatter so none of it ends up in my engine.

rfmckee, the camera is actually kind of old now, a Kodak DC280. I got it almost 2 years ago...

I've got a mig at home as well but like you its not set up for aluminum. Doesn't everyone have one in their garage??
