I have a heated visor and it is constantly fogging and freezing up. All vents are opened and I have changed the power cord to try and rectify the problem. I have tried vents opened/closed and a combination. Heated grips high, low, off. Always fogs or freezes.

Has anybody found a foolproof way to keep this from happening?

It is funny that you birng this up, I was just on the way out the door with my helmet in my hand going to my shop to make sure I am getting power to my helmet, the last time I went out (the weekend of christmas) I couldnt see so I chceked my sled when we got home & I have power coming out but I have to check the rest today. But after inspecting everything I cant see the visor or the cord being the problem.

There is clearly(pun intended) a problem with the power getting to the sheild. Take a test light and find out where you are losing current. Start at the plug outlet and work up the cord to the sheild. My HJC never ices or even fogs in the coldest conditions. Chances are your shield strips are not conducting the current.

It's almost always the visor itself. Seen many people go through a ton of aggrevation to find out its the shield.

How do you test the visor? I don't think mine is working right either. ???

Stop breathing so hard. LOL j/k

If it is really cold make sure your RPM's are around 7000 and try turning the cord around. Did you install the hook up on your sled? Perm did mine and Stu-Guys and the wires are a little tricky.

Do a resistance check on the visor plug..there should be virtually no resistance across the plug. Steve

try using a continuity tester to be sure it conducts power all the way thru it.if you have continuity and it still doesn't work-it's the power source. ;)

I'm with these guys/gals.

Although its hard not to breath hard with LadyK around.

Its definitely not getting power for some reason.

Do a voltage check at the end of your power cord where it plugs into the helmet. If you have power there, its the visor itself. If not, check where the plug attaches to the machine for power. You can easily narrow it down. I had to replace my visor last year due to the same problem.

well I found out my problem, I am not getting power to my visor, I am getting it from my sled and lose it at the cord to the helmet. This is pretty irritating because everything was brand new in Dec. 02 and used about 5 times (499miles of riding) the cord does not appear to be damaged but some where it is loseing current. So I guess I will go buy a new cord. Not that it really matters, but any idea how much for an HJC coil cord?

Royal Distributing has the cord for $14.95 ( 800-265-2970 ) I would take the old cord back to where ever you bought it though.Mine has worked great for years.

It sounds like I'm the only one that has had a problem with heated face shield. If it wasn't for ####ty luck, I would have no luck at all with them. I got a new one and the shield was bad on it. After it took me a while to finally find it, they wouldn't replace it because I got in one year towards the end of the season and didn't put it on till the next year, then I did not use it because we had no snow. So by the time I knew it didn't work my warranty was up. Piece of ####!!!!!!! :cussing:

Arctic is right on with this one. There is nothing comparable to the modular helmet with the nose cone. It is alot of $ but it will be the best money you ever spent and worth every penney. The lazer brand seems to be just as dependable as the Bombardier one and is usually half the cost.

 I've found that most of the time its the cord, usually when they quit is when you take an unexpected dump off the sled and pull the cord taught. This will break the wires inside the rubber coating. Done that more than once. :nervous:

Wow!! Someone who admits they have actually come off their sled!

I went out and bought the Doo OEM connector and will install it tonight.

From what I can see I was not getting enough current due to a bad ground.

My heated shield went bad on me last year. The plug on the visor was bad. I took it back to the retailer and he gave me a new shield.

take your visor outside, carefully place it on something hard, like concrete.NOW JUMP UP AND DOWN ON IT.IF IT BREAKS IT'S PROBABLY CRAP.i love electric shields but their so damn sensitive..........glad you found the problem though. :p

seriously though, there is an anti-fogger spray you can spray right on your shield.don't know where to buy it though........
