: Help
sully44 01-15-2003, 09:45 AM I am jumpin ship from Polaris! I have been riding the dogs for 15 years and my family owns 6 up in Eagle River! I am currently riding a 2001 800xc/sp 144 picks, clutched, SLP Pipes and V force reeds, still a dog! I can get a 2003 ZR 900 for $6000 or a 2003 ZR 800 EFI for $5500 but love the scheme on the F7 Patriot! Please Help! Money is not a concern! Want the best ride out there!
Downriver Thunder 01-15-2003, 09:47 AM I would go with the ZR900. The Patriot was a snow check version only, you'd have fun finding one.
deep-lugs 01-15-2003, 09:56 AM :D i jumped ship from skidoo i just bought 2003 zr 800 efi sno pro 1.375 lug track luv the machine i bleed green now
sully44 01-15-2003, 10:06 AM I have found a couple F7s with the Patriot scheme, compared to the ZR900 and 800 EFI how do the Firecats compare? I like to log big miles if we have snow but like to ride aggressive. For instance, St. Germain to Copper Harbor.
Downriver Thunder 01-15-2003, 10:08 AM The F7 has some issues right now with coolant and I think maybe oil. Something about engines frying due to poor bleeding of the lines and systems.

sully44 01-15-2003, 10:12 AM Thanks! Is the ZR900 hard to pull over?
Downriver Thunder 01-15-2003, 10:14 AM In my opinion it isn't but if money is no object, get electric start. :D Welcome to the Cat Class. SWRules
sled-head 01-15-2003, 11:09 AM i have owned a ZR900 and the F7. The F7 is a funner ride due to light wieght and has the same pull as the ZR9 but the ZR9 has a little more up top........There are no more issues with the F7......By now you dealer has PDIed a few and knows what to look for with the cooling system so dont let a bunch of internet BS scare you off. I like the F7 overall the sled flat out flies in the rough over the fatter feeling ZR......The EFi Is a plus when temp and altitude change and it starts excellent all the time. I can see the ZR being cut from the line up so why buy an outdated chassie that will have less resale value than the new F's......
PS
The 900 ZR has decompression valves for easier cold starting...
sully44 01-15-2003, 11:17 AM Thanks sled-head! Decisions, Decisions! Wonder what an Artic Cat Dealer will give me on my 800 XC/SP?
Downriver Thunder 01-15-2003, 11:19 AM If you can afford to sell it outright you'll get more for it. AC doesn't give a whole lot for comp. sleds.
NDMtnSledder 01-15-2003, 12:40 PM I got 500 miles on my F7 sno pro so far no problems other then recoil freying(check my website) and a speedo problem( part is in). My brother has about 300 miles on his F7 and other then recoil not a single problem. If you get an F definetly try to get one that has the sno pro option the suspension and track is much better. The F7 is definetly designed for someone thats an agressive rider it likes to be played with. Lots of power and very responsive, it seems really stable not as tippy as I had expected. Haven't had any cooling issues and put some miles on it real low snow conditions. The suspension soakes up the bumps alot better then any 121 i've road. The 128 X 13.5 does as good as any 121 i've road in the deeper stuff it floats up on top pretty good. If your more of a flat trail rider or lake racer the ZR is the setup for you but if you like to ride hard an F7 is the way to go. It will also do great on the trails the only stike it has there isn't it doesn't corner as well as the zrs do. The new little features such as the 4stage hand and thumbwarmers, dimmer on the brake lever, ethanol switch on the dash, new digital gauges, and new headlights are very convienent and work great. If you have any specific questions let me know and i'll try ot answer it.
jayjaysin 01-15-2003, 01:18 PM Those are some unbelievable prices you stated! I payed $7800 my my 900 and was quoted $7200 for a F7. The 900 is harder to pull over than a big tripple, even harder than the Thundercat, but it is still not that bad. I haven't driven an F7, but based on the numbers I can't imagine that the F7 pulls harder than the 900. The 900 has 110 ft-lbs of torque compared to under 100 for the F7. I know the F is lighter, but my 900 is a real stump puller. It has no end. And contrary to the comment of why whould you buy an out dated ZR chassis, because it has been refined to near perfection and is way more reliable than the F's. There are no chances with the ZR 900! You may like the F7 more, or you may get a lemon or hate the change. At least with the 900 you know what you're getting for your $$$$$. Good luck, chances are you'll love either. They are both great in thier own ways. There's no doubt that the F has the edge in the bumps and the ZR has the edge on the lake, but either holds thier own in any environment. :D
anteater 01-15-2003, 01:24 PM if you had a XC i would try a pro-x you have to ride one they are great but i went with the 700.i would try one before jumping ship my self .
GreenMan 01-15-2003, 02:17 PM ZR900 or F7 either one has it's good stuff as mentioned. i would pick either one. the zr 900 for it's big bore top end hehehe love big bores or the f7 for the new tech, lightness, and different design. hard to say, but i know how to solve my problem of this, wait for an F9 hehehehe this way i get the best of both worlds ;) if they ever come out with em.
bigdawg5565 01-16-2003, 04:16 PM My next sled is going to be the ZR900. I want the big bore!!!LOL :D

snowdawg 01-17-2003, 10:39 PM Sully sounds to me you made your decision without looking at Ski doos or Yamaha. You mention both sleds Cats. Before I drop my $ Look whats out there and what would work for you.!! :hallo1:
sully44 01-20-2003, 09:04 AM Had my 2003 ZR 900 out at Gogebic and Ironwood on Saturday, best $6300 I have spent in my life! 144 picks, superheartthrob clutch kit, what a ride! The power from the 900 twin is unbelievable! and the beautiful thing is, even though it weighs just a tad over 500lbs, the trail nimbleness of the machine is unreal! I logged 120 miles on Saturday to put me at 330 miles on the ZR! I will be up again next weekend Saturday until Monday, hopefully I can log some miles in St Germain if they get snow! If not its back up to Gogebic! Go Cat!
Downriver Thunder 01-20-2003, 09:17 AM Glad you are happy with your choice. :D
WickedWiesel 01-20-2003, 10:44 AM I'm happy for you.. :D :D  Have a good ride.
