What is most likely the problem is at the belt, you may have a worn one. To fix this, if you have a spare on your sled, you must take the old one off and put the new one on, shouldn't be too hard. If you need a replacement belt, go to your dealer and have him look up the part #, should be less than $50.
You need to replace the sliders in the primary clutch, a common problem with the older Yamaha YPZ clutches. These are a white plastic material that the guides the spider and the spider slides through, there are 3 of them. For some reason these tend to swell up and bind, I am not sure why but have experienced it before and had to replace them. A quick fix we did once while on the trail was to remove them and file the inside down so it would not bind, but that is only a temporary fix. To remove them take the clutch cover off, hold down to remove bolts because it is under spring pressure, then you will see the 3 white sliders on the spider ears. Get a screwdriver and needle nose pliers, pry up enough so you can grab with the needle nose and pull out, then push new ones in, they are a taper fit and will only go down so far. I would also check everthing else in the clutch if it has not been rebuilt in a long time. The bushing may need to be replaced also, and for that you will need a special tool to get the spider apart, which you are better and cheaper to take to a dealer to take apart unless you plan on doing a lot of them. I think the special tool is around $325.
Do not replace the belt and try it unless you know for sure it is worn out, you could smoke a new belt. Measure the belt to see if it is worn out. If it is less than 28.6mm or 1.13" wide then it is worn out.
Also watch the clutch when you are running it in the air, it should close smoothly. And you can see if it is grabbing and binding then releasing.
