;) Hey I was browsing on the net yesterday and fell on their web site...
http://www.hirth-engines.de/

They said the engines must be check after 1000 hours of running time @ 75% of full
power use. So if you ride at 60 miles per hour for 1000 hours it should do
an engine that will do over 60 000miles... They even got efi engines and seems to
be a better one than used in sled today. And if you read good they also said that
engine seize is impossible to achive if engine don't miss oil because their cilynder
material does expand faster than the piston...they have a nice 3 cyl engine that
could fit well in my sled...warranty 1 year with no condition and 3 years on crankshaft. Not so bad! they also state that when checking and engine after 1000h
the tolerance in those engine change very little...about 0.002 milimeter so I think
the engine may be used well over 1000h before blowing up....Maybe I should invest
in one of those...What you guy's think of that??

What's the motor intended for? aircraft? The exhaust is pointed toward the PTO side.

Looking at the specs, it's not very high performance either. Only 100 HP from a 940cc engine.

Hirth is a popular supplier of motors to the homebuilt aircraft crowd. Also commercial applications (pumps, etc).

In the mid 70's snowmobiles, they did have a pretty mean 650 twin...and the then awesome 800....

not much hp but good torque and low weight...AND RELIABILITY!! this is a must
those day's...for the price of the best performin sled I can buy me a kia car and
kia as a 5 years full cover warranty on it! No sled can offer this reliability today...
maybe the cat 4 stroke or the frontier...Maybe...Design for aicraft use those engine
must not blow up like all the sled we ride today...I personally would not thrust any
snowmobile engine in my aircraft if I had one...(firecat...machz...formula3...)
the point here is the reliability that they state... ???

7430$ for this hirth 3 cyl. With electric start & fuel injection.
Looking in browns leisure world for a 1000cc arctic-cat 3 cyl.
is list at 7204.95$ And i would bet anything that its not as reliable,
even if it's a very good engine. at 7204.95 you have nothing,
no efi or carb, and no starter.

I guess I STILL have a bad taste in my mouth about Hirth engines, from back in the Boa-Ski days of the 60's. (I'll bet most of you guys have never even heard of Boa-Skis -- that's a GOOD thing!)

I wouldn't fly with one if you gave it to me. My 582 Rotax has not failed me yet in my plane (see.... I'm still here to write about it LOL).

I had one in a sno-jet super sport...a 500cc twin hirth...And never had big problem with it...exept maybe for the recoil starter...
Nice sound too! It really was screaming... :inlove: :blahblah:
