: Is It All About Money?
Papas MachZ 01-23-2003, 04:13 PM Let me start of buy saying that i am really happy to be part of this forum and that i am learning alot from the people here. You Guy's and Gal's are very helpful,I have only been in the sport for 2 years .I am quickly learning that if you walked into a dealership or a private shop and they can tell you are sort of a newbie they will literaly try to rape you why is that,I know they are out to make money but........#### this sport is already marked up 300% why can't they just be honest.I give example,i walk in to a dealership lookin to see if i can switch from bombardier synthetic to the amsoil synthetic without any major adjustment they service guy tell's me they have to drain the tank clean the carbs clean the tank bleed the line's.I ask how much for me to go from 45 dollars a jug to 32 dollar's a jug ,he say's about 250 with labour.I said ok CuLater I call a private guy and tell him what happend and laughed he said run yo utank as low as you can then poor the amsoil and don't worry about a thing now yo uguy's tell me? Sorry about this rant just needed to get of my chest....Thankz
Rocketman 01-23-2003, 04:15 PM Yeah...just run your oil tank as low as you can and top off with Amsoil..there are no modifications needed at all! Good call Papa!
Preachin to the choir. :p
When you find a guy who will work with you so you get the best performance and don't loose your shirt getting it, that makes my day. I've been through a dozen dealers for various parts and I can't stand any of them, most of which are condescending little pukes that I'd like to take out back and rip em a new a.
Well there you have it. my 2 cents.
LadyK 01-23-2003, 04:35 PM We are really happy with our dealer. Doug at Kennises Lake Marina. He has NEVER ripped us off, always treated us fairly and given us a great price, and most highly prized, the great customer service we get at Kennises.
Where are you from Papa? If we knew this we might be able to hook you up with an honest and reliable person. Someone on the forum will know someone in your area I'm sure. :D
sled-head 01-23-2003, 04:43 PM Phone the better Business Bureau.........I have no use for guys like that.. :withstupid:

LB700 01-23-2003, 05:47 PM Papa...
Which dealer are you speaking of?
I deal almost exclusively with St-Onge in Barrie (not too far from you), and they have always been EXTREMELY honest, and helpful with me.
Been burned by other local dealers, and I know where you're coming from -- no fun getting hosed!
z800rotax 01-23-2003, 07:16 PM I was at St.ONge a few weeks ago when i was in the area and i needed a couple of main jets.Well the little dink behind the counter seemed like he didn't even want to sell me some because he had to dig through the jet selection and find the size i was after.I was just passing through, but i'll never stop in there to buy anything again
lock187 01-23-2003, 07:25 PM wow! Quite sensitive are we.
Its to bad because its usually the minimum wage kid who gives the dealers a bad rap!
About every other time I visit my dealer I bring them some donuts or venison sausage or jerky. Guess who gets their butt kissed when they walk in the door, yeah me! Try it sometime,I have been in the service business for 16 years,I love it when people bring in cookies, cupcakes, donuts, beer. When you feel appreciated,it gives you a feeling of working x-tra hard for that particular individual. Give it a shot, donuts are cheap. ;)

Awesome idea!
Having part numbers when you hit the counter really helps too -- when is Bombardier going to provide them on their website?
And...this time of year, you have to give the parts guys a bit of slack -- they are WAY overworked, and underpaid.

Looking through a pile of jets takes a lot of time, for a $6.00 sale. Still, they are important, and it's too bad you got treated poorly. Please give them another chance!
Or, you could go up the road to Royal. They have their jets well organized, and can get what you want QUICKLY!
I actually HATE dealing with Royal because they don't give much back to the racing comunity -- no sponorship deals, and they are not the friendliest people to deal with.
Rollo D. Motoski 01-24-2003, 03:19 PM When I was shopping for my REV last spring, some guy at st. onge actually quoted me 200.00 above list for one. I won't deal with them anymore.
03Adrenaline600ho 01-24-2003, 06:23 PM When i was shopping three semi local dealers for my sled one of my questions was to ask what their hourly labor rate is and i asked a ton of other questions about the selds of all types not to gather info but more to see how the dealer would respond and let me tell you i was not impressed with any of them!
ANyway this one salesman tells me out on the floor that their hourly service rate was $100.00US/hr and I went, What!, and with a straight face he continued on with why their service rate was high. The guy next to me, who came in after i did, was just as shocked to hear this as well. So, I shrug and say to myself this guys is crazy but I continued asking him questions. By the end he came clean and say their service rate is $55.00US/hr and that the question i should have asked him was how quickly hed have my sled back to me if it needed service and blah, blah, blah....The second i new he was BS'ing me was the second he lost me as a customer. I wouldnt buy a pack of gum from this a**hole! I had other issues with these guys anyways cause of my young age an their impression that i was a tire kicker and not ready to deal. Let me tell you when I threw cash on the table I finally treated like a customer. All dealers I talked with except for one arctic-cat dealer where all a**holes to me as a potential customer, they all suck. I only bought where i did cause I felt the mecahnics were top notch when talking with them and I was able to get them down to the same price as a dealer more than 3 hours from me.
Not sure if that makes sense but oh well.

What???
I hardly think that ANY dealers business revolves around a "minimum wage kid".
I don't know of any "kids" dropping 9k for a sled.
Dealers give themselves a bad rap by not doing what their suposed to do...cater to their customers.
My bud had a recall on his 02' ZL-800. We walk into the cat dealer and ask about it and this grumpy fat-a$$ says, "yeah-yeah, I know about it, but i don't know if were gonna do it". And rant's on about how cat only wants to give them 1hr. to do the job.
Not my prob. pal, Your the one that wanted to sell sleds!
(and he oviously doesn't have any prob. taking your money if you want to buy one)
This guy has a better chance of seeing God before he ever sees a penny of my money!

Fast Mach Z 01-25-2003, 04:55 PM I agree with all of you guys! The sled and aftermarket business is full of rats. I'm AMAZED that any of them stay in business. I could go on for hours, but I wont. Lets just say, the industry gets what it deserves. Please take your business to nice, honest, hardworking people. If the losers go out of business, it is better for everyone.
