: What Is A Good Sled For .......
PossesivePower 01-23-2003, 11:42 PM I would like you all to tell me what you think is a good sled new or used for a 16 year old about 225 pounds and has sledded for years but on a 250,I ride the trails very hard but i would also like reliability.
What is my best bet?
todatop 01-23-2003, 11:44 PM any of the big 4.......600s!
PossesivePower 01-23-2003, 11:52 PM Im thinking something used
Yeah, I would go with a 500 or 600. Get out to a few dealers and testdrive some. Just to let you know you will probably fall in love with an MXZ in a ZX chassis :D ;)
Good luck in your quest, they are all good, pick your color.
Boondock 01-24-2003, 12:45 AM My 16 yearold Grandson is living with the Wife and me and rides a 2000
Doo Summit. I think you would have to pry it from his cold dead hands to get it away from him. He keeps telling me he is in love with Snowcatting.
Got to watch him at times the power monster grabs him but other than that he handles it quite well.. Only been riding for two years..As his Grandpa I am plenty proud of him....
MXZonly 01-24-2003, 09:03 AM Any of the 600s in this order:
MXZ
ZR
XC
OK so thats just my preference on the order but MXZs are awesome and they seem to have a better rear suspension for heavier people. It seems like I can bottom out the others easier on bumpy trails when riding hard.
Sled Dogg 01-24-2003, 10:02 AM Add your location. 98-99 ZR's willbe the best deals and sometimes a few 99-00 zx chassis MXZ 600's can be had cheap also. You can get these sleds for 2200-3000k Great machines for the money. there were a few problems cat took care of on the 98-00 zr 500-600 cc machines. If your in Michigan oir willing to drive here the Bronson sled auction is the place to buy used. You can get a New 02 left over for 2500-3k now.

ZR006CatMan 01-26-2003, 02:24 PM I would have to say the Arctic Cat ZR. I'm 21 and weigh 250. The ZR fits me perfict. If your looking for decent Used. The ZR 500 any year from 98 up is a solid sled. Handels well, the one I rode I was able to throw around pretty good. Lots of fun. Will run just over 90Mph I imigin with him on it. The 600 will get you a little more on the top end. But with a little clutch work you can make both come out of the hole about the same. Just watch out for the 98-99 500 motors from cat. They have a service bulletin where you need to unplug the kill switch on it. Other wise it back fires alittle when run at lower speeds. And seems almost like it is buggy. Not sure why it happens. But it does. Unplug the kill switch and it runs like a top! So just something to consider. Also, Buy the brand you have good relations with the dealer you shop at. U take care of those Guys, they take care of you. Just my opion.
evil_89 01-26-2003, 02:33 PM Man im 19 and 6'2 210 and I find polaris my best fit...anything 488 and above ...there easy to find parts for and easy to work on....makes for less probs SWRules
liquid600 01-26-2003, 05:18 PM I have a 1994 XLT for sale $1200.00 if you are interested.
Fuzzy 01-26-2003, 05:32 PM the type of sled dosen't matter. as long as you can get one with low milage and for the right price.
I am not brand bias. except for Cat (don't like the dealer here) .
It also depends on your riding style. if you do alot of off trail riding try to get yourself a long track. or something with a 1 1/4 lug. but as for engin size anything over a 500 is good.
Flash 01-30-2003, 10:01 AM do not bother wiht that xlt its :cussing: buy a used mxz 500 so reliable and so many of em out there you can get them for good deals
Go for a MXZ 600 or 700 or 800. 500 To slow. If you have sledded for years you can handle bigger engines.
Flash 01-30-2003, 10:12 AM yea but dpends how much money you got that will cost alot mre and insirance will be deadly
and hes only been sledding on a 250 for years i think a 500 will satisfy him
joezr2 01-30-2003, 10:23 AM My 2 cents: My brother is 6'6" tall and last year weighed about 320lbs (down to 280 now). He rides a 97 ZR580EFI and it hauls him around just fine. The only thing we had to do was put heavier rear springs in it. It also has a D&D clutch but he keeps up with my 580efi and I am 6'1 175.
icedrag009 01-30-2003, 10:29 AM hey whats up. Anyone drag or speed run in here.

:( you forgot one. the best one.yamaha :inlove:
BGTRK19472 01-31-2003, 10:52 AM I would look at the pro-x 440 fan or a zr440 or 500. the zl440 and 500 would be a good sled also. Plenty of room to grow on these types of sleds. Myself i still ride a zr440 and have no problem keeping up with most of the larger sleds. SWRules
