I had a stupid question about the NGK BR9ECS Spark plugs. Is it nessesary to have these plugs instead of the much cheaper "ES?"

No. I ran the BR 9ES in my 98 SRX and I run them in My Viper.

My dealer and neighbor ( he is my srx mechanic) said you need to
Why ? I don't know but I am not taking that chance.

I know how you feel I just bought 3 last night $7.49 each + 15% tax

Just this fall a sled mechanic in Dowagiac, Mi. had to rebuild a '98 SRX engine that had holes burnt in each of the pistons; attributed to running the wrong plugs. Here's another example of us folks gaging on gnats and swallowing camels. Most will go out and spend big bucks on engine mods, suspension upgrades, accessories, magazines, shows, gas, hotels, etc, etc, etc, then cut corners on the small stuff like plugs; probably the most important part of the engine. Use the right plug!

Just a thought.

you didn;t say what plugs he had when it burned up.

listen do a search about this topic i just wrote this somewhere

there is no diff in the br9es and br9ecs other than
the ecs is an angle ground center cut electrode!

the heat dissipation is the same.
same insulator length etc.

if you want to pay 7.49 a plug fine
but ill stick with what has worked for everyone ive sold these plugs to!!!

From what I understand that little angle on the electrode does more than it seems. Those plugs supposedly resist detonation. Using the wrong plug... like the ES...could cause more detonation resulting in holes in the pistons if run long enough. There is a reason why Yamaha is telling people to run those plugs and not the ES plugs, I would listen to them.

I can't see that Yamaha will tell you to use a plug that cost more just because they want to help NGK out a bit .
I might think that if we had to run yamaha plugs.
.
My question to NGK is what could cost that much more to make the ecs's over the regular es's?

probably not but they know your going to pay it because
of posts like this.

he said, i heard, i saw once someone s sled had a problem (maybe )
because of the spark plug that ther dealer tells them to run.

i dont really care what you do

but from my experience ive never had a problem with the br9es in vipers, srx's, or anything else.
