I haven't has my 98 XLT Limited 597 with the VM-34's long but I have noticed the fuel milage is rather bad. My buddies new 700 XC SP gets 1/3 better mileage consistently even during breakin. When we fill I always get 1/3 more fuel.
It works out to about 9 miles per US gallon. About 100 miles on an 11.8 gallon tank.
I have in it 230 mains. 40 pilot and the clip on 2. screw is 1 turn out. I did check the needle and seat and they hold when tested with the carbs inverted and pressure applied to the inlet. The choke plungers have a bit of gouging on the base but the dealer says this is normal and won't affect fuel consumption. I think the small nicks would allow the starter circuit to draw and mix fuel but he says it doesn't draw fuel.
Factory for 1-3000 is 240's and 220's near O celcius
I was thinking of changing the needle and setas to viton and the plungers anyways just to see. I just picked up 220 mains and I was going to try them out.
My plugs are very dark and she smells rich at idle and low RPM. That is what made me think choke or needle and seat. The belt is new and up 1/8 of an inch on the driven. Track is very loose, 1-1/2 inch play.
When looking at this sled several people said they were very easy on fuel but this one doesn't look that way.
Any suggestions or comments to get this pig on a diet!
