I just got back from Michigans UP and am now able to give a honest report on the RX-1.

First off, It freakin rocks! Of the 6 sleds in our group it was the fastest. The group consisted of 2 800 revs, 2 02 800 mxz''s and a well setup ported 98 machZ. The machz was the closest but I could still pull him (sorry to report that machzzz1).

Yes I''m stock except for heavy Hitters and an airbox mod(thanks for the info BBY)

The only place the weight showed up was when I attempted to be a smartass and got it stuck. It did take 2 of us to yank it out.

I really don''t know what all the fuss is about with the pro action rear skid, it didn''t ride as well as the MXz''s, but not much worse. This is impressive to me considering the big weight difference, plus I haven''t made any adjustments to the rear skid with the exception of pulling up the limiter straps and loosening the front shock. So who knows how well it will ride should I figure it out. No visable wear to the hyfax.

The front suspension is awesome. Coming off a machZ, I really didn''t notice excessive ski-lift but will install the longer links anyways. No adjustments were made to the front shocks.

Fuel milage got better with every fillup (and it wasn''t me that needed to stop for fuel ). The first tank I got 12, 14 on the second, 16 on the third and now have plenty of gas left while everyone else was on fumes and had to fillup again while I sat and watched . No oil consumed that I can see.

Hookup doesn''t seem too bad but will possibly install a 1.25 for next season. I didn''t really need the 192 megabites because of plenty of snow.

Starting was the best of the group! Each morning it was below zero and all I did was simply touch the key and she fired to life! She warmed up better than the rest too. The 800 twins pulled really hard and needed 5-6 pulls to bring them to life. The mach only took 2 pulls every time. All coughed and spuddered except the RX-1

Windshield is great and I will leave it alone.

Gauges are great, easy to read and no warning lites came on ever all week.

Without a doubt, it is everything that I read and expected. Will it run with a rev thru the rough stuff? Nope, but few sled will. If I had it to do all over again I would in a heartbeat

I am glad you like your RX-1 AS I love the lookof them. haven't had a chance to ride one yet though.

but at the drags here a few weeks ago the Rx-1 's ran in the 700 or 800 class. but they never beet anything. the poos were fastest although there were only like two there. and there was no way the RX-1 could catch the Mx's. they were even beeten by the summit 800's.

Mabye your mods make a great improvement. or mabye your friends sleds are in serious need of a tune up. as most people I know can start their cold sleds on one or two pulls .

The clutch kit is the key! I can't believe what a horrible job Yamaha did with the stock clutching

There is absolutely no comparison between a stock clutched RX-1 and a clutched one.

As far as those sleds starting goes, I'm not sure what to tell you but what I reported was the truth. The revs both had about 500 miles on them while the mxz's had around 1,500 and the mach just rolled 4,000. Once started, they all ran great.

the clutch kit on my buddies rx1(heelclicker)made a world of difference, slowly pulling away on a 2003 machz, under real life driving its getting 12-13 mpg, compared with my 800 twin (9.5-10.5 mpg)...adds up after a long day of riding :p but stay on the trail

You're probably right about the milage panteraone, as the days went on the trails got worse so our speeds slowed too. Even the REV riders were #####ing about the trails.

Mighty, what did your airbox mod consist of? Always looking for more power for my rx-1. The clutch kit made a huge improvement, along with the 1.25 track and 144 studs.

Take out the storage bin under the tool kit and cut off those cup holder things. They protrude too far down and obstruct the airflow forcing the engine to suck in warm air from around the engine bay. Then go to the front of the sled and push in the bottom of the black metal plate that takes up space between the hood and belly pan. This will allow a straight shot of fresh air directly into the air intake. Don't worry about snowdust, it won't make it thru the filter in the airbox.

Mighty,

Added CPRs HH set up as well and WOW....what a difference!

I did have one problem...my track ratcheted something awfull from a dead stop.

It even ratcheted nailing it at 60 MPH!!!

I am not sure if it is the torque or my reverse popping in and out of gear?

Any ideas?

How many miles do you have on your sled now? Mine ratcheted like a mother the first 50 miles and then I tightened it pretty good and it hasn't ratcheted since.

350 miles thus far...this happened before within the first 3 miles....it ended up to be the reverese...it was popping in an out of gear?

I think I remember reading about some linkage that had loosened up on some ER's causing what you described.

:D It is nice to see all you guys spending loads of$$$$ on the RX-1 so I can get an honest opinion on one. The next sled will be a four stroke. Most likely a Yammi!! Have a Viper now and I like it. I usually keep my sleds four seasons and then upgrade. I am sure by then Yammi will have worked out all the Gremlins with the Rx-1(not that there are many) and offer more options. Color, displacement etc. The future is bright!!

I haven't noted any gremlins yet, knock on wood :sarcasm:

I have spent $230 for a clutch set up that turns this thing into a rocket....not loads of $$$

I spent $7800 retail plus $230 = $8030 total.

Well worth the money spent....get it now!

What ever you did in mods must have really helped because Rev 800.s and 600's around here are eating RX1's for lunch in 600 feet. I know of two that were traded in on 800 Revs already and really took a beating on the price.

I'll say it again, Heavy Hitters!
1/4 and 3/4 set screw in the heel
7/16th screw with thick washer in the middle and tip.

Anybody that does this setup will not believe the difference :D :D :D :D :D

Oh yea, stock primary spring with the silver Yamaha secondary set at 6 and 2.
