I've seen that Mother's makes a plastic polish to remove small scratches. Has anyone tried this on a helmet visor?
thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Mothers works great, just make sure you use a quality no-lint polishing cloth for best results.

If you really want a superb result, go to Meguiars (http://www.meguiars.com) and check out their three step plastic rejuvenating process. Using a cleaner, polish then final protectant will have your visor looking like brand new!

Good luck,

Powder,

you can safely use plastic polishes on electric visors. Most visors have a visible element at the top and bottom of the frame. Sandwiched inside the plastic is the actual conductive coating (which gives the shield it's light tinting).

Most or all of your scratches should be on the outer plastic layer, and polishing same will in no way harm the visor's ability to conduct current (and thus remain fog/ice free).

You should not have to "polish" the inside of the visor, only keeping it clean. Use a plastic cleaner designated for cleaning, try to avoid harsh commercial glass cleaners.

By the way, never use paper towels to clean a visor, your dashboard, guages etc. Paper towels contain minute wood particles that actually scratch plastic!

Anyway, I have "reconditioned" many a scratched shield using Meguiars (and Mothers) plastic polishes and cleaners and my friends have always been amazed with the results.

Good luck,
