I rode a 98 SRX 700 this past weekend and was very unimpressed with the ride. Perfomance was decent but the sled seemed very nose heavy / difficult to steer. There doesn't appear to be any bind in the steering/ front suspension and carbides are in great shape. The sled belongs to my cousin and he doesn't ride so I thought I might buy it as an extra sled, but only if I can get better handling and ride out of it. Is this ride typical of this sled? It reminds me of my old VMAX 4 ,and I would have thought Yamaha would have improved on this by now.I don't know how the original owner has the front shocks (Ohlins) set up ,What have you guys had the best luck setting them up at?I don't mean to pick on the sled ,but it performs/ runs so well I think it should handle better. Thanks for any input.

I had a 98 srx 600 with Ohlins shocks. I use to keeo them a few clicks on the soft side so it wasn't a stiff a ride. It was not a mogul masher but a groomed trail machine. A little on the heavy side. Powder, forget about it! It is a 98 and alot has changed since then. The engine a quality was flawless. Put 6000 miles(trouble free) on it. I hated to get rid of it, but I upgrade every four seasons or so regardless. Try aftermarket transfer rods also. I thought the sled was an absolute delight to ride on a groomed trail and it handle some bumps ok. Handled like an Idy Car. Stayed flat fror me always. I guess what I am trying to say it that you can tech and tune them to your liking!

Crank up the front shock in the skid and set the front springs to the factory minimum. I did this on mine and the steering got much lighter. I ended up bringing it back down because I realized how much I liked the way it handled with a little bit of weight on the front. You can also get those easy steer arms out of bender if you don't like the heavy feel. Work with it and you will see that it handles like a ferrari. :D
