my friend has a 1990 exciter that wont keep spark, we checked before the coil with a mulitmeter and its getting current there, but after the coil its not getting any. so we changed coils and put on one that works but we still couldnt get any current to come out of it. Anyone know what could cause this?

also what is the little black box thing thats hooked *up before the coil? what does that do?

that "little black box" is the cdi or it can be called the ignightor, if you've checked your grounds, and tested the pick up coil, this could be your problem but there not realy testable & aren't cheap so be sure before replacing(easer said then done if you don't have another exiter to switch with)

Get an aftermarket manual. It's cheaper than replacing unecessary parts. There's a good trouble shooting section in some manuals.
