Since I just reached the next level of posting prowess, I though I might share my experience with my better half on her opinion of snowmobiling.

After last weekends repair and hiatus from the trails, my riding buddy and I thought we would get out both days this weekend to catch up on some milage. :D

When my wife asked me if we had any plans for the weekend, I told her that Iwas planning to run both days and it did not go over well :nervous:

Well this was just a catalyst for all the ill I've caused over the last while, and all the hockey games and movies we attend are long since forgotten.

I'm in the dog house, pulling my pin

How do you married sledders get around this?

Just go. Dont worry she will still be mad when you get back ;) Fortunately Perm and I dont have these troubles. Snowmobiling is for only 3-4 months of the year. You gotta ride when you can. Make it quite clear you arent putting the machine before her, but this is when this sport is available. I am sure she will get over it. Before I was a snowmobiler I used to sit at home all by myself all winter, no biggie I am a big girl and can find lots of things to do if you arent here :) Take her out tonight and that will free the weekend maybe some flowers? If all else fails just go. You are already in the dog house. ;) :)

My wife tries to pull the same thing, I just remind her of all the stuff we do together and I do for her. She will be mad but will get over it. Mine does.

i am not married but i do have girlfriend. i know its hard to get good seat time in and keep the women happy. I just remember that i have had snowmobiles sense i was 5 and i have only had her for a couple months. My dads way of getting around it, is he bought a new pantera and he takes mom with her. but that doesnt help the guys that like to play. i guess its a no win situation when it comes to being married.
well, depends on whats in your dog house. if u have a big screen, souround sound and a ps2. that can pass the time. :p

I can likely be of some assistance on that very subject as I've now somehow managed to stay married for 19 blissfull (big time chuckle) years to the same woman.
In the early years when my wife crabbed about my sledding habits I would tell her maybe her next husband won't be a sledder and headed on out. The more she crabbed the more consecutive days I stayed away sledding (no kidding). Well she finally gave in and agreed that making the most of the few weekends we get in the winters isn't unreasonable (not that I was gonna change anyway) and now only expects me home when she actually can see my truck turn in the driveway.
Last spring I took my 6yr old son for a two day trip to Haliburton but phoned her mid way through the second day telling her we changed our plans and was calling from NewLiskeard and she should not expect us until the following week. It was spring break so its not like he was missing any school.
Don't give her the "King and his castle" routine, just explain the seasons short and maybe when its not sledding weather cut down on the TV sports time and make it about her, works for me and has for 19 years.

Rick.

Its also a great idea to either get a two upper or a second sled and get her interested in "Doin it" together. My wife rode on a limited basis for about 4 yrs but due to health issues its no longer possible.
Good times can also be had on the back on a sled (an activity not reserved for cars) deep in the woods if ya git ma drift. LOL

My wife is a rider but with the thin snow conditions here in Minnesota when a trip to the UP comes it means long hard hours of riding. Gotta get that mileage somehow!

I know my wife and she's good for about 6-7 hours a day and that is if the trails are good. So in my sweetest voice I ask if I can make it a guys only trip. She gets a little disappointed, but then I pull out the wallet and leave her a few hundred and mention that maybe she needs some new shoes.

I get home after the trip and she's happy and I'm happy and all is well. Funny how new shoes makes it all good!

I kept my old snowombile for my girlfriend, not too old though, a 96. But I made the mistake of letting her ride my new one. So now the old one is not good enough, she will not ride it when we're out riding. She always wants the new one to ride or sit on the back of it when I'm riding. So if you do have a woman with a sled thats not as nice as yours, don't let her touch your sled!!! :D

That could be a tough one Al, if not handled correctly. :p I really never have a problem with this, but I make it a point to do as much as I can with the family since time is so limited anyway. It's not like I am always off doing things "with the guys" or without the kids. When winter rolls around, my wife asks "when are you guys heading north?" She knows that winter is my play time. She didn't even argue when I was out 'til 3 am Xmas eve this year after we got a fresh dumping of 8". It does help that she likes to ride too, even though she hasn't ridden in 4 years. Bottom line, as long as you guys do things together, she should have no problem with you getting away once in a while, and she should understand that our time with snow is very limited. On the other hand, if you're hardly ever around and are ALWAYS doing things with the guys, then it's not really fair to her. GOOD LUCK!!!!

They always get over it. My wife gets upset when I go because she has to stay home. By the time I get back she's over being mad because I made it home safely.

Every time I say the 'S' word (snowmobile) it puts her in a bad mood. Sucks. She thinks I ride to get away from her but it has nothing to do with anything but having fun riding. If I just wanted to get away I could lock myself in a closet. Sheesh!

Sounds like I'm not alone on this subject.
I made supper tonight, which went over well, and there has been no more discussion, so I might get my collar off and get my two days :D

I'll take the advice and make up for it later,..........after my six day trip to Temagami !!!

My wife likes to ride, just not as much as me.As long as she get's to go when she wants I can usualy get away when I want. :)

On the don't let her ride the new sled thing, not only the new one, keep her off the fast one too.
I let her ride the Indy 500 this weekend ,now she thinks it's hers :(

I have come to the feeling that my wife just hates me. Friday's are the worst day of the week for me. 35-40 weekends a year I take off to go sledding, or fishing or hunting or golfing. But everytime I ask her to go along. Can I help we don't have anything in common. So as she is yelling at me on Friday as I am walking out the door, I tell her if she doesn't like it, don't be here when I get back. She is always still there when I return. I feel I am living a page out of AL Bundy's life Married with children. LOL

I'm sorry, bubba-zx, but that's just sad! :(

When Trailblazer and I were first dating he was into snowmobiling and I wasn't. I used to be when I was younger, the local guys all had sleds when I was growing up, but I never drove one and don't live where the conditions are the greatest.

Trailblazer and I have a long distance relationship; about 2 1/2 hours. It quickly became a conflict in our first couple of winters together that he could either spend the weekends with me (our only time together) or sledding. He was chosing me but I could tell that he was really missing the sledding. It didn't take too long for me to decide that I wanted the time with him, and I also wanted him to be happy, and if that meant getting into the sport, so be it.

I HATE the cold, but if you have proper gear and a good comfortable sled, you can learn to love the sport. Now we both ride as well as all our kids (except one who will be riding next year) and life couldn't be better. Most couples quickly learn that the initial "newness" and passion soon wear out, and if you don't have common interests to fall back on, look out!

Thanks, Alscool, but I'm also wondering if Trailblazer is thinking he's created a monster? :( We now have FIVE sleds to maintain, and he has to listen to me whine about buying parts, gas, oil and permits (2 this year, 3 next year) for my 4 or 5 weekends out riding a year! :0: Oh yeah, just had to buy my 12yo (who rides maybe 2 or 3 times a year) new gear last weekend; Men's x-large suit and size 13 boots! Darn kids won't stop growing!

Then he reminds me how it's an investment in fun-time with the family, and all is well with the world again... :inlove: :D

AAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHAAAAAAAA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!

I Love Being Single.......only got to report to myself!

It is a tough thing if your involved with someone that dosent understand the whole snowmobile lifestyle, or wont get involved in it because of lame excuses like its too cold or they dont want to have to pee in the woods. Yeah, at best we only get 2 or 3 months of the year to ride and have to take every advantage to do so. For me the right available girl would have a great sence of humor first, be intelectually challenging second, and a snowmobile fanatic third.....that would about as close to the perfect match as I could want........she wouldnt even have to cook!......I dont mind that at all........she could even be filthy rich too!...... :p LOL
