I have a ? Does anyone know what the ohm's on the stator are suppose to be, and what wires to check. My 96 FIII will not climb above 8,000 rpm's and it usally runs around 9,200. Is it possible that the pickup assembly is not sensing the pickups on the magneto flywheel, there was one pickup that was rusty. Any ideas will help I just do not want to put it back together just to have to take it apart again to replace the stator if that is the problem.

Are the RAVE valves clean and free to move?

when you took the stator off did you see any arcing on the base or the starter housing .....when i owned my 600 f111 ,the stator had a short in it and the only way we found this was by a arcing or burn mark on the motor base ...by the way the 1996 f111 had a bad problem with the stators bombi supplied the part no charge ......you should check this out with bombardier...they may come to the table on this problem..

I do not have the stator apart yet. Do you know of any way to check the wiring with an ohm meter, or what wires to check? I have ohmed the spark plug wires and the coils and they seem OK. Could this be a pickup assembly problem? Thanks for the info.

I believe that the 3 cylinder engines have a seperate high speed coil within the stator. I just replaced the stator on my FIII 700. The engine would just quit and I could not get it started until the engine cooled. That seems to have corrected the problem.
You can measure the resistance of each of the coils - not sure which wires it is on your sled. YOu can tell when you have the right leads because you will get a resistance of 150 - 250 ohms. Your dealer has the spec. You can also measure the AC voltage output from the stator when you pull the engine over. I don't know if there is a spec for this voltage or not. The resistance of my coils were within spec yet the stator was bad.
Another thing you can check is resistance from each end of the coil to ground.
The point here is that stators are kinda funny in that they may be bad but still measure within spec.
Hope this helps - good luck.

Thanks for the help. I will check the ohm's and go from there. Does anyone know where I can pick up a manual for my 96 FIII with specs.

I'll say it again like i do all the time. ITS THE CDI!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please every one don't go changing everything else. When you can't get your revs past 8000rpm its your CDI!!!!!
your stator is when it has a low speed miss.
Thank you andgood night

Thanks for the info JETRep, it will be very helpful. I just want to check out all possibilities before I go changing out parts. Hey zasphalt is there any way to check out the CDI box. As everyone can tell this is my first time on this forum and it is a great one, thanks for all the input.
