'02 Chevy Duramax 4x4. I've only had it about a month. I like the 18 MPG, much better than the 10 MPG I was getting with my Dodge. I've heard I should see about 20 or maybe even a little better. I'm just glad I don't have to spend my overtime $$$ on truck repairs anymore. MORE $$$ to spend on the sled. *:D

Sorry Mr. Wolfman but my GMC is not a pickup and it is not made down there in the big old state of TX.And it only shares the engine and drive train with it's Chevy brother the TrailBlazer, perhaps the pole should have read Chevy/GMC or just GM and everyone would be happy. http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif *:p

Got bored with Ford last two are Chevy
Both with 454's not great mileage but they have hauled
Arctic Cat , Polaris and Skidoo with the greatest of ease.
Routine maintence and purchasing them was way cheaper than the diesels. You have to put on about 40K miles a year to justify the added cost of diesels or keep them twice as long. I get tired of same truck after about 5 years.

if you hit 100,000 miles your diesel has paid for itself.thats an ave. of 20,000 miles a year.and that if you donot tow either.but if your towing then it will pay for it self sooner with added fuel savings.those big cube gas engines cannot even come close to my 19mpg pulling my 4 place enclosed.

Machzzzz1, I have about $5,000 in recipts from my local Dodge dealer that days Chrysler has their share of problems too! (front axle-ball joints, u-joints: rear axle-pinion bearing, axle bearings: CV joint in front drive shaft, replace leaking intake gaskets, and a major tune-upall in the last 7-8 months not to mention 4 transmission rebuilds. All that with less than 60,000 miles) Not trying to start something. They ALL have problems. There were things I liked about my Dodge, But, I had to go back to a Chevy(the GM discount helped sway my decision). Had to try out the Duramax. So far, so good. http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

butch800 you are right about that they all have problems or could have.only thing you left out was the fact that you told me yourself you were real hard on the ole' dodge,LOL.my old truck is a 97 dodge 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive/auto trans thats now in florida with 100,700 miles and the no power train problems.only claim on it was a radio and fuel tank sending unit.only reason I know the mileage is because I just read an e-mail saying he just replaced both front outer universals and rear axle seal.not much maint. on this one.and it has pulled my 30 dutchman,35 foot race car hauler and 20 foot snowmobile trailer.oh and the engine in it has the power pack from banks that has 260 *hp,and 676 foot pounds of torque,at the rear wheels.stock was 135 and 364.chassis dyno Mc Allisters in Indianapolis In.

I'll be the first to admit I was a little rough on the 'ol girl. I was just trying to make a point, not offend. *:) I'm sure the GM IFS wouldn't have handled the abuse I dished out. I've gone over this Dodge vs. Chevy vs. Ford crap ever since I bought my Dodge. The guy's I work with are GM guy's (their dad's work there so they're brainwashed) They always say how great Chevy is. A little side note to this post. I happened to get into a little fender bender with my 99 f-250 superduty last Thursday. My fault totally, never saw the guy, kind of made me mad at myself as I haven't had a ticket in 20 plus years and the last accident I had was in '84 and it wasn't my fault (drunk blew a red light). Well the other truck I hit at about 8 mph was a new six month old chevy. He had to be towed from the scene, I hit his right front with my left front. I bent my bumper, broke the headlight and grill and just cracked the paint on the fender. His front end was destroyed breaking his radiator and mashing the front right in. I thought to myself wow I am glad I have a ford. Anyway if I were to get into another wreck I would wish it to be this guy, he just said "no problem, accidents happen" If it were his fault I probably would still be reaming him a new one. LOL Not to say my truck is tougher but I was surprised. Kevin

I had a '99 F350 SuperDuty Crew Cab dually 4wd diesel with the 8 foot box. I loved the truck, but car washes and banks were impossible, not to mention maneuvering is tight places. Got a 2001 Excursion Ltd 4wd with the Powerstroke again. I love it. It will tow 10,000 lbs, rides great(for a truck that weighs near 7000 lbs), holds 8 people, and if I am easy on the throttle, gets extremely good mileage. I average about 60,000 miles a year, so gas power is out of the question. If Dodge would come up with a vehicle of similar design and with the Cummins, I might try one, but I will never own another belly-button motored truck again. For me, they just don't hold up. They are built too much like a car.

Are you a member of the TDR? *Best $35 I've ever spent. *Put some 275 RV injectors in that HO of yours and an EZ or Edge Comp.....I'm sure that will help!

This summer in Bay City, MI I ran against a Porsche Boxer from a stop light; We were even till 60 when he let off. *At the next light he wouldn't look over at me and had an  look on his face while the guy sitting next to him looked over and nodded and * http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif .

Last year I used a '98 Ford Ranger 3.0 with the 3.73 gears and standard transmission. Also had the Metric equivelant (as close as I could get) of 31" tires. It pulled two sleds ok.

I got rid of that truck and got a '99 Explorer with the 4.0 and 3.53 gears. It has an automatic transmission (my first and last... God I hate auto's) This truck does a lot better then the Ranger did on flats and small grades but really dogs on the steep hills with the gearing thats in it...

Permafrost,

Why wait for the warrantee..... chances are you won't need it for the engine. I did the TST about 140,000 miles ago and wondered why I hadn't done it earlier, seriously!

If you live in MI I can take you for a ride and you won't want to drive a stock truck again.

There is basically nowhere to get work done on the cummins up here except at cummins. I ran the Banks power pack on the 97 and it rocked almost twice the rear wheel hp and torque on chassis dyno.and they are still covered under warrantee from cummins the 94-early 98 12 valve motors are capable of 300 hp and 800 foot lbs. in marine trim its the mass produced manifolds and such that limits them in the dodge trucks.it now has 100,700 miles last time I talked wih him with the auto trans. but we modified the valve body, engineering at the trans plant helped they are better going into lock-up and at the shifts,I know the specs if your interested but you will have to disassemble the vb and drill a hole above the switch valve thats .090,this will give you faster lock up(will feel more like a solid shift instead of the slide) holes for the separater plate are same as the b+m shiftkit specs, and we replaced the accumulator spring with a bushing and take the torlon ball out of the tail of the valvebody but make sure if you do this you are at a complete stop before shifting from for. to rev. and such or you will pop the rev. band it will hit reverse right now with out the ball no hesitation.

Gimme a break cletus.Trucks from the 70's and early 80's especially chevys had to have a body done every 2 years and thats if you were lucky.Electronic engine control is far superior in every way when compared to your simple basic electronic and even points type ignition system period.I'de rather diagnose a drivability problem on one of todays trucks compared to some old rusted underpowered turd from whatever decade you desire.Just my opinion.

Edited to whole thing-

We used to tow with my moms 04 Volvo XC70 and the 97 Jeep, but got a new Jeep (more below) and gave the 97 to my sister. Volvo is doing great; mom loves it. Averages about 24 mpg.

Our new Jeep is the 05 Grand Cherokee with the HEMI. Man does that thing haul. Nav is great and it handles+rides much better compared to its predecessor. Averages about 13.5 mpg.

Dodge all the way here, we've got a 2003 dodge diesel and a 1994 diesel. Both are excellent trucks. The 94 has 320,000 kms(200,000 miles) the 03 has 55,000 kms(34,375 miles) on it.

The 94 has had one front end overhaul, and the 03 has had no work done to it. They are both stock.

We bought the 94 used in 1997, it had 174,000 kms on it. In 2000 we bought a 20' goose neck trailer and that's been its main job since.

Here's a picture of one of the loads that we've hauled with it.

[attachmentid=25760]

There is just over 20,000 lbs of saw logs on the trailer. Total gvw is around 32,000 lbs

Hi permafrost, just wondering about the tracking bar update to moog. Ours is going to need replacement in the next year or two. Is it any better? We've never replaced it, but I think that the dealer who sold it to us did.

Nice truck ya got there. I'm hoping to add one to the family of dodges pretty soon. :D

Just about everyone including the inlaws have a dodge diesel in my family. Yep we've owned others before too. Our last truck was a GM 6.5 LT Diesel. Loved the truck, but couldn't stand the injection pump or the lift pump.

Thanks

Ryan

Ryan it seems most of the guys at the TDR are going with Darrins set up from Solid steel inc. they are based out of SK and know there Biz well. I have there steering stabilizer on my dodge, and it is a great product. It helps to reduce wander and load on the steering box. They make an adapter kit so that a new style 03 dodge track bar can be installed on earlier year trucks. This is the route I will be going when my Moog dies.

Solid steel (http://www.solidsteel.ca/Products.htm)

Another option is the DT adjustable track bar. These are also a good route to go becuase they are adjustable and rebulidable.

DT Pro Fab (http://www.dtprofab.com/dodge.htm)

Track bar info (http://dodgeram.info/tech/mods/trackbar/index.html)

One other option is Lukes link.

It's the 6'3" box. They don't make a 8' box megacab yet, at least not that I'm aware of. (mine sits on the same frame as the quad cab/8' box... an 8' box megacab would need a new frame...) If they do eventually make one, it would be ___long___

Yukon XL here. On my 3rd one, and will always be my tow vehicle of choice unless I can justify a crew cab Duramax some day. Right now I make more use of the interior space instead of a bed.

1990 Honda Civic EX 1.6L - Here we are loading up after riding at Mt. Adams last month. That's actually Tony's trailer, mine is the drive-on/drive-off in the second pic from November on Lolo Pass, where just last week we found a cougar sitting right in the middle of the road just about a mile up from that parking spot. Luckily at this point we were in the car because this is a low altitude spot and there's no snow left there. The cougar was not very impressed by us and didn't get out of the way in any kind of hurry. We were talking about camping out there...no more. This is like 6 miles from my house.

Sweet ride! My wife did the same thing. She went one night and test drove an 05 Grand Prix GT, she liked it and proceeded to do the paperwork. An hour later we were on our way home with her new ride. Of course beings we weren't planning on doing all of it that evening we had to borrow a couple boxes from the salesman to put her crap into like CD's and stuff. It was funny. She was inside signing and I was outside cleaning the stuff out of her 03 Rendezvous.
