Hey

Ive been riding my REV since I got it on Jan. 27th and have about 350 miles on it. Well today I went out for a ride and the carbides are junk so I came back and got my wifes 02 ZX, holy sh!t I dont think I could switch to anything except a REV now. Its very different, my feet didnt know what to do, there was all this vibration and rough feeling. It sucked basically! I cant wait until I get my REV studded, new carbides and the handlebar riser kit installed. Im gonna FLY!

Hey hey hey man knock it off, enough with the bad mouthing of our beloved ZX chassis, "sure the rev is a better ride" BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH :cussing: :D :D :D :p , im thinking of getting a new ride this fall and it just might be a rev. :p

you ruined your carbides in 350 miles?? get off the highway with your sled, and i ride a 2002 mxzx 440, i have rode a rev 440, and i wouldnt take the rev over my zx

I concur 110%, once you go REV you can't go back. Owned an 02' MXZ 800 and loved it. Great sled...will never say a bad word about the ole' girl. But when it comes to my REV....it's like riding a Supermodel who craves sex...oh so sweet. :D The REV is the balls gentlemen. Takes a few hours to get used to it, but once you get it down... you can't go back to a traditional sled, it doesn't feel right. I let my buddy try mine last weekend and I rode his MXZ and thought I was going to die! REV it baby...you won't be sorry! :D

the stock carbides are just junk, I wasnt on any highways. sure the conditions werent great but I can do the same riding on the same condtions with Woodys carbides or something similar and they will last at least 3 times longer usually 4 or 5 times longer. Ski Doo Extreme carbides seem better than the cheapos that come on the sled though.

the rev makes you a better rider.
and i tell ya nothing like blowing by people on the bumps, the bumps are fun!
my vote for sled of the year hands down!

I would suggest getting the carbides that are one up from stock the intense carbides they are plenty, providing you with 11.5 inches of carbide for each ski. The extreme's are way too much even for my paddle and long track. The REV is in current form is not the end all of sleds. IT is a great sled and full of technical advancements, is it for everyone NO. I have ridden every REV model available from skidoo at least 15 times a day. The REV just does not feel right IMO, if they change everything over to a REV chassis we will be keeping our mxz's for a long time. There seems to be a surplus of REVs coming into our work to be repaired from blowing corners.(ask DP :0: ) IS it because the rider height is so high, therefore increasing the overall CG or is it because people feel invincible on the new "super" sled. On another note I have had 8 leg operations and it really bothers my knees when they slam against the cowling. I don't want to slam your new rides people, this is just my opinion but believe it or not others feel the same way. Maybe we are just to set in our ways ;)

Probably blowing corners because, you can go so fast through the whoops and junk you sometimes dont realize how fast you are going. Also the turn in I think is a little slow in the fluff and a lot of icy corners this year.
Sorry to hear you are not fond of the Rev. As a first year model I think its unbelievable, give Skidoo a couple years to refine it. Keep your zx, after the sales numbers are tallied up for 02-03, every manufacturer will be phazing out their existing models to keep up. By the way have you seen anyone stagger carbides from inside to outside? I would think a big hunk of flat carbide on the inside carbide with a sharp outside carbide would last longer and still be effective but I dont design skis.

My Rev makes my zx feel old, dated and uncomfortable.

cdgsledneck that is how the intense carbides come staggered. I am running the 6.5 on the outside and the 5 on the inside. This is the first time i have tried this setup and it plain out rocks . Zero push in the corners icy or fluffy and that is with the 136"x1.75" track. IT is true that the speeds are decieving on the rev. IT seems like you are going slower than you are as it takes very little effort to pilot the REV. And then comes a corner, which most likely the REV could make but when people panic and hit the brakes they lose control. JM3C

I think you can't beat a Rev on rough tight trails and on day trips up to 100-150 miles which is what I use mine for. But on long trips up in Canada, with 200-300 miles a day, when there is no need to get your butt off the seat for a rough trail, I'll take my MXZ700 ANYDAY! I never thought I would think of a Zx as a touring ride! If Skidoo put all their sleds in the Rev frame without changing some ergos, I would be changing brands. ... just a few thoughts :D

when ski doo came out with the zx everyone bashed the ck3, the new rev comes out and it gets "bashed" for lack of word! i came off a ck3 too a rev and dont think i would ride anything else! the rev is not going through turns its the driver thinking he/shes on rails!
my 2 cents i love it! im glad ski doo has it and not another brand!
as for two sleds some people out there wished they had one!

Permafrost- you are right my friend...the REV won't be for everyone, nothing in this world is I guess. Everyone I've told that has asked me how I like mine I say I love it....& I also tell them however it won't be for everyone. It takes a little getting used to, but no matter how much some people spend on it, it just won't fit their style and that's okay.

I have my theory on the corner issue as well... on a traditional sled when you go into a corner you lean out and back. On a REV you lean out and forward.... like you would on a motorcycle. I caught myself when I first tried to make corners on this sled leaning out & back and the outside ski comes right off the ground... I learned to lean out and forward over the tank and the problem is solved. It will make the corners, Ye rider just needs to have faith. As I said before, loved my MXZ but my REV for me is where it's at. Won't go back.... :)

lean out front 100% and it takes a while to get use to! i have 400 miles on her and im just getting it!

Thanks for the set up. Gonna give it a shot, these stockers are about done at 500 miles. I dont think people are bashing the zx, just that the rev seems so much better. As good as it was in its day, my grandpa still thinks his 74 cheetah was the best sled ever built.

Folgers, I feel pretty lucky that leaning out and forward has come pretty easy for me... took a few hours to get used to it, but now that I am it's second nature. Should have seen me trying to crouch up on the gas tank and lean forward in the corners on my buddies MXZ 800 while he tried my REV..... does not work. :doh: LOL.

Just to clear things up on the cornering issue.

Yes, I did blow a corner last week on a REV, and I blew it big time at about 70mph.

This was due more to rider error and less sled design.

The problem came up as I was following Permafrost on the Renegade, and DanR on my FZ 700.

The Renegade creates a HUGE dust storm behind it at all times and makes it very difficult to see.

Dan nearly blew the corner as well but was able to turn my ZX chassis sled through because of the setup, 11.5 inches of carbide and 144 studs. For the record, the REV was a rental with only 6in of carbide per ski and no studs. The corner was very icy and was a sharp, decreasing raduis right hander.

When I saw the corner come up, and dan hanging off to make it I had a decision to make.

I decided to blow the corner and ride the sled all the way into the bush rather and try to turn it and roll it.

I rode it in all the way until it stopped and was able to turn it into a group of smaller trees rather than letting it hit one large one.

Could I have made the corner on the REV??? Maybe. Could I have made it on my own sled, Definitely, without any problems at all.

Dan and I had just switched sleds about 10min earlier and I forgot that I was not riding with studs. with the REV set up like my sled, with studs and more carbides there would have been now issues at all.

The REV does require a different riding style that many will have difficulty adapting to, for those like me, with a Motocross background it will be much easier.

As for the REV performance, I was VERY impressed with the handling in general, the suspension setup was not correct for my riding style and there were many other minor problems but this is to be expected with a Rental. If this sled was my own and with proper setup, I have no doubt I could ride significantly faster and turn quicker lap times on it than I could on a similar traditional snowmobile design.

These issues are, in my oppinion, not flaws in the design of the REV but rather flaws in the riding style of the pilot.

I don't think you would tell Bombarier there Jets are no good just because you did not know how to fly it and crashed the first time you attempted too.

This is only me 3rd year as a sled owner, I had been ridding a few times a winter on barrowed sleds for 5 or 6 years before that. But before this winter I would not have considered my self as an experinced rider.
I now have about 900 miles on my REV and with out a doubt I am twice the rider on my REV as I was on any sled before. I didn't have much of a transition time to get used to to the REV because I never got complently confortable on my old machine.
I still try and take it easy in the corners, but I have sooo much more confidance on my REV.
The guys I ride with are blown away with how much better I am ridding this year, they still have no problem with keeping up with me, but they are not waiting 10mins at every turn for me to catch up.


You can please some of the people all the time, but you can't please all the people all the time :D

Glad i'm not the only one that feels this way.

How is the steering effort on hard pack with this much carbide?

The sled steers quite easy with the staggered setup, that is the bonus of it. After 100 kliks the carbides are broken in, then they are not as sticky :)

Folgers i have not been keeping track but i have quite a few miles logged in on the REV . I was not sure at first so i waited till i had more seat time to make my own judgement.
