: Whats With The Lack Of Signs/staked Lakes?
BellevilleMXZ 02-10-2003, 03:04 PM Is it just me or is there a lack of signs this year?? I KNOW several spots do not not have near as many signs this year, and alot of trails are VERY poorly marked. And what about some of the lakes?? Weslemcoon and Effingham lakes have no stakes and the wife and I got crossed up and ended up is some slushy spots, which DID NOT make for a very enjoyable day. Is this what the $140 is good for??? This is starting to #### me off :cussing:
SXman 02-10-2003, 03:10 PM Welcome to the club! The trails down here in the Adirondacks don't even exsist! Unless you know the land and the trails, you'll get lost in a heart-beat !!! :cussing: You'll see a sign here and there, but if your a stranger to the area, your gonna get lost !!!
cooley 02-10-2003, 03:14 PM may they didnt get that much money in trail passes this year becuase nobody could get insurance on there sleds
FishHog 02-10-2003, 03:43 PM Isn't getting lost part of the snowmobile experience?
I do it so often, I must enjoy it. ;)
I completely agree, I've noticed the same thing in spots. Like coming to an intersection with not a sign in sight. Unless your a local or familar with the trails, what choice do you have but to flip a coin and see where it goes. Of course I should try the coin idea, as I should get atleast 50% right :D
alscool 02-10-2003, 03:48 PM If there is a lack of signs, I just follow the trail and enjoy. There is always signs at mayor intersections and junctions. The lakes around here were only staked in the last week.
petestoy 02-10-2003, 03:53 PM Not only lack of signs but incorect signs, we came across 3 signs that stated Dorset 11kms 1 hour later we were their!

Just curious, but which trail(s) did you take to Dorset that were like this? I was there yesterday, didn't get lost this time, but last weekend we were lost for close to 100km due to poor signage.
It is pretty pathetic when you get to an intersection and there's a giant blue "MSR" sign, but no trail markers/indicators showing what trail you just met. Somebody had time to install the MSR sign, but not directional arrows.
ZIPPARS02mxz800sp 02-10-2003, 05:19 PM poor sinage is the result of ### holes suing the ofsc for incorrect signs on the trails like putting a 90 degree turn on a 60 degree corner the guy sued and got a few million what a jerk. :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: ???
petestoy 02-10-2003, 06:50 PM ontrider we came through big hawk lake up 16 to 61.This was early in the year but thats no excuse.
IndySKS 02-10-2003, 08:59 PM I'll post this again although most of you probably have already seen it
http://www.sciencehilldrifters.com/signage.htm
the information on that page is all about all the changes the ofsc made this season in regards to trail signage. Actually most people I have spoke to like the lack of caution and hazard signs it makes you a lot more aware of what you are doing and the speed you are going . Of course every trail you ride is different because it was put in by a diffent person, some follow the new guidelines to the letter , others haven't changed a thing.
Now the new signage changes have nothing to do with information signs like directions to towns and such . I don't know whats wrong with everyone this year but a lot of clubs are really lacking on destination signs, even my own club that bought all new signs last year for every intersection now has barely any , where do they go ? no one seems to know but it seems to be happening all over the Province. We rode parts of District 5 and 9 on the weekend and got lost twice due to poor signage and this is our home area, what whould I do in unfamiliar are like Dorset ?
BellevilleMXZ 02-10-2003, 10:43 PM Yeah I had seen that, but I mean markers as to where the trails go. I can't count the ones I have come up too, and they are not marked. This is a JOKE for what we pay in fees. I have never minded paying for a permit until this year. This is a goddamed joke, with the lack of signs, and dangerous with the lakes not being staked. They want to cut down on deaths, this sure as hell ain't the way to do it.

If I remember correctly, it was 16 that we got confused on because the intersections weren't marked. I don't remember if we were in the area of Big Hawk Lake, though. Either way, I don't think the signage has changed any since earlier in the season. It's still terrible.
