Arctic Cat bought the patent on dirct drive from Black Diamond. They were supposed to have direct drive in the 03 Snopro mods, but I didn't see it on Tucker Hibbert's sled this past weekend. My dealer said that we might see it in the 04 firecats and maybe the 1M mountain sleds, but don' hold your breath.

Direct drive is a very cool concept and i'm sure we will be seing more sleds featuring it in the future. It's supposed to increase track hp by 10%!!!! Another company called RMI (Radical Mountain industries) already came out with a different design for a direct drive system.

The main market for direct drive now is the mountain riders with deep pockets. (It costs $2,500 for the RMI drive system and then you have to get someone to install it... it's not a do it yourself thing.)Do a search on Snowest.com and you'll find more info on the RMI direct drive and the Black Diamond one too.

here's a pic of the BlackDiamond system.

How hard and costly would it be to change the gearing in one of these? It doesn't look to easy and I bet it would cost alot more then a normal sled.
