Has anyone replaced thier airbox with K&N's or other "open" filter media? If so what were the results? I read on this site that the airbox has allot to do with how your motor performs (air temp, resonance/air flow, carb venting, etc..) I was comtemplating this for a 1996 Storm buildup im doing...I plan on jetting up two sizes over factory settings as a start and tune from there but am wondering if its worth the potential issues. Running stock exhaust right now, motor .020 over, Carbon Tech Low Tension reeds, minor clutch tuning.

Waiting for 8"-16" of freshies to start falling up here in the Northeast! WOOT!

If you are building a full blown "race only" sled you will probably be ok, they are worth a few extra hp. One big caution: The factory air boxes are designed for max flow while efffectively breaking up snow dust ingestion. The cold snow dust if ingested, hits the hot piston skirts and causes whats know as "thermal shock"( the piston skirt rapidly distorts) the snow dust also washes all the oil off the leading skirt which then abruptly siezes. Definately stay away from pod filters if you trail ride.

Yeah - from what ive been reading and for the majority of trail riding I do its probably not worth it. Polar-bus, I noticed your from NH- I live in the seacoast area....lots of snow last night - 2' here at my place!

My brother had them on a Polaris 650 tripple motor with a lot of work. Do do add some hp. but they were a pain to try and trail ride the motor with. The motor was originally used for asphalt racing. The plugs had to be constantly looked at. I would stay away from it. NOt worth the headache IMO!!!!
