ok, where do i start. 55 miles on a tank of gas, top speed of about 65-70, suspension is set at the maximum height, but bottoms out even on the smallest bumps, very doggy i push the throttle and theres nothing there. its a 96 fIII 600 triple with 3200 miles

sound`s like you need to go thru the carbs and check the floats and needle and seat. the 96 f3 is a good sled when it`s right if you still have the c7 rear skid you are only good for the lakes and smooth trails

Also what RPM does she max out at? Check /replace clutch springs (bad ones cause low rpm) if they havent been done.....I know that suspension is not the greatest, any broken springs? Clean the carbs, do a compression check, clean the rave valves if needed etc....I have a 98 FIII 600 with 8500 miles on it and on the low side it gets 10mpg and it will go damn near 100 (speedo) any time I want, and on a good surface it will go even faster. I do all the above mentioned things once a year, and it runs like the day I got it.

well i just had the carbs cleaned about a month ago and i only had it out once after it. I was thinking about it more and it seems like when the rave valvs "kick in" is where i loose the power. From a dead stop, i can gun it and it takes right off, but when im doing 20 or so and goose it, theres nothing there. Also, how high should the front and rear bumpers be off the ground with suspension at the hardest setting. compression is at 120 on all 3 cylinders. and yes i still have the c7, is there any upgrades i can get for it (let me remind you im 16 and have a very tight budget)

thanks

hack take your rave valves out and clean them its not hard remove the black cap there is a spring in the cap dont lose it all you need to do is take out the two screws and the vavle is ready to come out it might come out hard if it is gummed up clean it up put it back together you might need a new gasket, one other thing the vavle is marked top on one side yes that side goes on top,i would also have both of my clutches looked at and would replace the springs in both clutches
the springs are around 20 bucks a piece.do you have the tools to take your primary clutch off if not have your dealer do it for you it should't
cost to much to have them clean and replace the springs & check the bushings & secondary buttons

Check your choke cables and choke settings. Sometimes the cables get pulled when the carbs are off and it will richen it up. May need a plug in that cylinder if that is what is wrong.

i had the same machine and put 8500 miles on it. loved it.but when i first got the machine from the dealer the chocks were way out of anjustment.also does the motor sound full and bogy?the purple screamer should sound just as the name segests a screamer. the only way mine would work right and not foule plugs is by droping the needle down one position. keep your clutches clean and it should work for you. mxz crazed

thanks guys. yes the engine does sound boggy and full, has more of a wwwwaaahhh sound than the eeeeeerrrruuhhh (if that helps) As soon as it gets above 0 degrees i will go out and clean my raves. I will also check out the choke cables. I live in fargo ND, but do most of my sledding around Detroit Lakes, MN. I have had my sled since Jan. 2 of this year.

Hack, you have described the exact conditions of a fouled plug or a non-firing cylinder. You didn't mention checking/replacing the plugs but that is the first place I would look. If you are certain all of the plugs are good make sure the coils are good. If it's been running for a couple minutes feel each pipe, you may be able determine which cylinder isn't firing (the pipe won't be as hot as the others).

A plug that isn't sparking will result in lose of power, reduced top speed, a boggy sound, etc.

How many miles are on the sled?

i put brand new NGKs in it before i took off gapped at 20. i think my problem is with my carbs. After i got home i took out the plugs and they were really wet and you could see excess fuel around the plug holes. I checked the spark on all 3 and they all sparked. What im gonna do is bring it back to the place i got the carbs cleaned at. They didnt set it right or something. there are 3200 miles on it. any other ideas?

One thing I do on a sled with triple pipes to determine which cylinder is not running good-run it long enough to get it hot-then throw some snow on each pipe-the dead cylinder will not sizzle like the good ones will.
