Mighty RX-1

RX-1 all the way! No complaints here except I think a 136 inch skid would help it hook better. The warrior has me tempted, so if you want to save a couple grand I'll let my Gorgious Blue (Mint) RX-1 ER go for $6,900.00. It has just under 700 miles, 192 woody's megabites, 8 inch carbides, skid plate, shock covers, Heavy Hitters Clutch kit and a spare belt. I just gave it the first oil change and switched it to 100% synthetic amsoil. I probably have close to $10 Grand in this sled. What am I nuts :0:

Using the calculator at x-rates.com, you're looking at 6900USD = 10,385.80 CAD, of course this is based on currency trader rates, so the exchange rate you'd get at a bank would not be quite as good, probably closer to 11,000 CAD. Given that RX-1's here are about 12,600 plus taxes, etc.... and all the extras his sled has, looks pretty reasonable to me.

Importing sleds into Canada is another story, I looked into this with regards to the sled auction in MI, apparently, you'd be looking at paying GST and PST at the border, plus, since it's a Yamaha (not manuf in USA or Canada) you'd pay duty, and have to fill out a RIV application, which would later involve taking the sled to canadian tire to have them make sure the headlight works and slap a CSA sticker on it before you could register the sled in Canada.

Hopefully that helps out a bit...... figured I would mention what is involved buying internationally, so you know what is involved before making a decision.

Wow!,That is a lot to deal with just to buy a sled from an hour or two away from the border.I know a guy that bought his F-7 in Canada and brought it back here to Michigan. They sled a bunch Can,and someone he knew let him buy it with there address. Some ungodly price, around $6 G's & change U.S currency.

Yep, it would seem as though you guys in the US have quite the price advantage that way. My understanding is that many US dealers will not warranty sleds bought in Canada tho.

On a more general note, I have found it surprising that we here in Winnipeg are not seeing more american lisence plates around, given the HUGE exchange advantage that is available to americans. I remember 10 years ago when the exchange rates were closer, one could drive to Grand Forks ND on any given weekend and find the whole parking lot full of Manitobans, this was when products were much cheaper as well. On my last trip, I found that most things (electronics/movies/cd's/etc...) cost the same amount in US currency there as they do in CDN $ up here. This is why I am astonished that there are so few americans shopping for these kinds of things here. Maybe they just havn't caught on yet, or there is duty/other border issues to contend with going in the other direction.

Back on topic, I worked at a motorsports dealership in town about 4-5 years ago, just as the exchange rate really dropped, and every month or so, a guy from ND would come with a huge flatbed 5th wheel, and buy 6-8 honda atv's in crates, a couple out of crates, a sled or two, and tell me to leave enough room on the trailer because he still had to go pick up a dodge ram he bought. Damn, would that ever be nice.

I guess the point being, even though it would be adventageous to buy sleds in the US, especially at the MI auction, the canadian government has basically found ways to remove all the savings. Some sleds that I was looking at on the auction website, I would have been able to pick up for about 1500 - 2000 less, AFTER exchange than they were selling for here..... but then the taxes, RIV costs, other hassles, and transportation costs, would have brought them closer to only a 200-500 dollar savings :( .
