I have a damaged ZRT cylinder. I have heard of 2 ways to repair it.
#1. Bore and replate.
#2. Install a cast iron sleeve.

Any pros and cons from the experienced? If I bore it for a sleeve, do I still have a cast iron sleeve plated, or is the nikasil plating only to give the original aluminum cylinder a hard wear surface. Has anyone used one of the big-bore 700 kits with good results? Maybe it's time? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Getting it replated is more expensive, but I think it's the way to go. Once it's fixed it's as good as new.
Putting in a cast iron sleeve would only be an option for me if the machine came with iron sleeves.

gettin it replated is the way to go,i think it's around 150$ to replate or something like 300-400 for new chylinder

Definitely re-plate, once they are done they are just like new. check out http://www.mt-llc.com/index_home.shtml , http://www.maxpower-engines.com/mpcpricesend.htm I would imagine all said and done I think the re-plating is cheaper.

I put a sleave in my zrt 800 this season. No problems so far, but you want to be picky about who does the machine work and the company you buy the sleave from. I bought a L.A. Sleave and my machinist told me that if fit great. All the ports were matched well. If you go to the wiseco site it is the company they use too. I had all three cyclinders honed and one sleave installed for about 80 bucks.

Thanks for the input. I did some checking and apparently replating is the most economical way to go. Thank you all for your help.

Now that I think about it, I should be looking for the reason my cylinder is scored so badly. A brief history of the sled:
Bought new 2/1998. The next day, literally, all the snow melted. I used stabil in the fuel and ran the sled every month. Come riding season (98/99), only ran about 500 miles. In the spring of 99, had Delta V-Force 2 reeds installed with a clutch kit. Again, ran every month. Again, slow riding season (99/2000) w/500 miles. Repeat running every month. After 200 miles during 2000/01 season, rolled truck and stopped riding. 01/02 season also slow, with 200 miles. Every year, sled is started every month. This past year I spent a lot of time away. I didn't get to run it much during the off season. Winter 2002 was cold, but no snow. The first time I tried to start the sled, the recoil wouldn't pull. After a few tugs, everything seemed fine. Ran great for 30 miles, then quit on the trail, just like the brakes were used. Very hard to pull, but would run extremely poorly cold and quit hot. When I got it home and pulled the heads, I saw heavy scoring in the right side cylinder bore, with a powdery substance (nikasil?) on the combustion chamber. I haven't pulled the cylinder yet, but it actually looks similar to lack of oiling, yet the other 2 bores are beautiful. Any ideas?
