There is a few things that you can use a paint brush with varsol will remove much of the belt dust stains like magic. Orange grit hand cleaner used liberaly with elbow grease takes off stubborn exhaust residue and good old WD 40 also works excellent for cleaning.

I had a '98 MXZ for 3 years & used (sparingly) lacquer thinner on a shop towel. Just keep it away from decals. No probleems w/ it ffecting the plastic.

Zippars:
I use armor all wipes on the plastic, and use Honda Spray cleaner and polish on the hood, and your sled will look showroom when done. Yes, I don't touch my seat until after the season. You will like the Honda cleaner also, especially on the mxz chasis as you have more of a finished hood then I do on my Rev, and the cleaner makes it clean and shiney, well worth the $7.00

castrol super clean is great stuff on plastic.....be careful with it around the aluminum, especially if its polished, I have problems with the overspray dulling polished surfaces if not wiped off immediatley.

i dont know if carb cleaner has acetone to it or not, i only used it on the belly pan where the black exhaust is at i would not recomend using it anywhere else, i would be almost positive if you used it on the hood that gloss finish would quickly disappear.
