Hi,
I have a 90 Cougar Mtn Cat 500 fan. I've recently aquired an ignition problem. Once the machine comes up to operating temperature and i pin it one cylinder misses and the engine stutters. This problem is kind of erratic. Sometimes it is hard to get it to do it. Other times it will fail completely. I have good compression. I swapped the cdi box with my spare and the problem was still there. The problem must lie in the igntion coil, charge coil, or trigger coil. I've checked all of the resistances but they all check out ok. If my former arctic cat dealer doesn't have the suzuki ignition analyzer how can i figure out which is the problem? My polaris dealer seems to think it might be carburation but i don't think so. If it was carburation the problem would be more consistent. And the machine wouldn't run strong while it's warming up...then all of a sudden lose all power @ full pin. It does it especially under load. My inductive spark checker shows the spark cutting out when it's doing it on the stand.
Thanks
Hope you guys can help

i would think it would be the external coil(the one the plug wires come out of) i had that happen to me on a 92 jag 440 i own and when i changed the external coil all was well in the world again......it gets loose and will vibrate and cause the ignition to break down....good luck

I had a similar situation with my 95 Cougar, was misfiring and overheating it seemed like. I took the carbs off and cleaned them up and it solved the problem. Dirt is an awful thing
