Afriend has a 91 EXT 550 and is having some issues. When he holds the throttle to the bar he runs at 7200rpm if he backs off just a little bit it comes up to 7400rpm. It should run at 8000 so we still have to tweek it but the throttle thing bugs me.

I had a similar problem years ago on a 88 eltigre 530lc and the problem was worn rollers on the primary clutch. Worn flat on one side. If it the original clutch it probably worn out completely. Is so don't rebuild it, its a waste of money buy a new 9tower cat clutch and pitch the comet. If you have already updated your clutch check your secondary helix to see if the is any marks on the ramp, check the sliding pucks that ride on the helix and the secondary spring might be soft. Try adjusting the spring to a tighter hole, each hole is 100rpm gain if it takes all the way to the last hole buy a new yellow spring. Good luck.

Clutches have been rebuilt I think its more of a fuel problem then clutching. I agree on tightning the secondary to increase the revs but the backing off the throttle to incrase revs boggles my mind
