I dropped 500 main jets into my '02 800 twin today and took it for a spin on the lake.
Temperature was around 10 deg F. Plug color was a light brown and looked right on. I'm not sure what will happen if it gets much colder. Anyone else runnig 500's on a stock 800? What temps have you safely ridden in? By the way- ran real nice. :D

I've got 500's in my 02 MXZ 800. I haven't had any problems and I've ridden down to zero or slightly below. Ridden about 700 mi. with these jets.
I should note I had both the carb update and timing update done last year.
Oh yea, it does run nice!!!

If you don't have DPM, I'd be real careful about running 500's at Zero F. In fact I'd be careful about running them at any temp. Do a 1000 yard pull at half throttle, (and I mean half throttle by position, not by speed) kill it and coast to a stop and check the plugs. If you still see a decent color then you are safe. Otherwise, jet up. Don't make the mistake of jetting just for full throttle with a pre 03 seriesIII.
I have 500 mains in both my 02 800's they both have DPM though I have not had any problems in over a 1000 miles still running strong

02 800 No DPM. 500 mains -30 Deg C Flat out on lake for 15 km. Plugs light tan. still room to go.

:p i ran 500`s with no probs stock in my 01 700mxz but with the B&B can i went back to 520`s, and i run around -10,-15 deg c range, and i burn just nice. i dont like playing with fire for trail riding. ;)

with 500's you won't have any problems ..at any speed.
01 mxzx 800 w/dpm and reeds. Running 480 mains and plugs darker than I like them. I ride at 1,500 - 3500ft and feel I could drop the mains more, but will err on the conservative side until I am sure I could run 470s or 460s. Rarely is the throttle ever more than 3/4 and lake runs are rare.

500 mains were stock in the 01 mx 800.

in my o2 800x i still have the stock jets needel update and reprograming done but at the end of last year my dealer got me new carbs from japan my sled is 2 liters per fill up cheeper then bro 03 rev 600ho soory never figherd out mileage but 100mile trip and still have gas left
