I got a freind wanting to buy a 800 twin and is stuck between a MXZ or XC. I kind of have a Skidoo preference but these series 3 engine kind of scare me. I think I have decided to buy a 99 or 2000 machZ but he is still torn on what he is going to buy. Which is faster the XC or MXZ ?? Which is more reliable and which has the best feul mileage. Also how would they compare to a machz (with a 6'3" 250-280 pound person on the mach)??

Flip a coin man :withstupid: both are awsome sleds no matter what anyone here will say, i know both sleds very well, although the XC may be bit quicker on the top in stock form.

One thing about the XC, is it's AWESOME gas mileage. A buddy with one gets 17 to 20 mpg, and we're talking HARD riding. He has had some problems with the VES valves, and has had them fail on him twice so far.
I think the fit and finish is no where close to the Ski-doo, and it doesn't seem to handle as well.
I'd say go with the best dealer -- whichever brand you choose.

The Doo has more p[ower stock but in 03 they've had some crank seal problems. In the earlier 800 Doo motors they've had piston and ring problems and a bad mid range lean condition. Guys that tune there sleds seam to be the ones that have posted most about the lean condition and Doo switched carbs for 03 to fix the problem. Many Doo faithful say the *00 series 3 motor is by far the worst motor Doo has made. The polaris 800 is a good solid performer overall and responds very well to mods! The Edge chassis is a sweet trail machine and sone say the best trail machine chassis w/out going hardcore like the rev/pro-x/Firecat. I'd highly recomend you look at a leftover Polaris 800 as they are very cheap here in MI atleast.
i ride with 2 guys who have the xc 800. they r nice rides. and from what i here from guys in my area. they still are not happy with the mxz performance and gas mileage. so i would have to say, go with the xc
